 Due to his strong connection with Father Burgos, the friars and the Spanish
authorities turned out to be very suspicious of Paciano. As a protective brother, he
changed his brother's surname from Mercado to Rizal to prevent the friars in
knowing their affiliation.

2. Would you consider that the secret departure of Rizal without the consent of
his parents was the right thing to do in order to fulfill his nationalistic fervor?

 Yes, because Rizal is in the right age and even he didn't have a consent from his
parents but before he departs he wrote a farewell letter for his beloved parents and if
he didn’t leave he can’t fulfill he’s journey.

3. Explain why Rizal continued his medical studies despite his difficulties in the
medical field.

 He continued his studies in medicine for him to treat her mother’s illness and to learn
more about the aspects of medicine.

4. Discuss the motives of Rizal in his first homecoming. Why was it cut short?

- Rizal wants to go back home to prove something that there is no reason for him to
come back and also because of the financial problem of his family in their
homeland (Calamba, Laguna) He also want to have his mother’s eye to undergo on
operation by him, and also wants to serve his countrymen that was being
oppressed by the Spaniards. But even before he plans to come home, Rizal
received a warning that he shouldn’t came back for the reason that Friars are
angered because of his Noli Me Tangere. When Rizal already arrived in calamba
many rumors starts to spread, saying that Rizal was a German spy, or an agent of
the liberator of Germany, a protestant or even a soul halfway to damnation all of
this are the welcome gift for Rizal’s homecoming. He is not permitted to go outside
after alone, His brother paciano accompanied Rizal every time he goes outside.
Rizal’s enemies found where Rizal’s dorm is. Rizal’s exposure of the deplorable

Anonymous threats about Rizal’s life alarmed his parents and relatives and friends
