Interactive Notebooks

I absolutely love using interactive notebooks in my classroom! My

students’ notebooks are neat, organized, and they ACTUALLY
look back in their notes when working on various assignments.

Here are a few tips that I have learned along the way:
1. Cutting and gluing does not take as long as you think it will! Give students a time
limit and they will finish sooner rather than later.
2. I always expect my students to help their neighbor if they finish cutting and gluing
first. Whoever finishes first is also responsible for walking around the room with
the recycling bin to collect the scraps.
3. I prefer using glue sponges because they work quickly and cause minimal mess.
4. Always provide students with a visual. This helps them know exactly what your
expectations are.
5. Sometimes I actually have my students cut and glue their notes during morning
work. That way, I can start the lesson right at the beginning of my writing class.
6. I have included a practice sheet with these interactive notes.
