TRM1105 GLOBAL CULTURE AND TOURISM GEOGRAPY

Section 1

Module 2: FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT 3

The United Nations inscribe as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Uzbek’s Palov culture and
traditions Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or commonly known as UNESCO. It
is a ceremonial dish made with rice, meat, spices, and veggies that are commonly prepared in
rural and urban communities of Uzbekistan to showcase the hospitality and generosity of the
local people as well as serving this outstanding dish in special occasions like weddings, new
year, and in burial to give respect to the ones who have passed away. My own personal reflection
about Palov culture and tradition is that is a great platform to showcase and promote their
ancestral tradition that should be continued for a thousand years as well as passing it down to the
next generations to preserve and have a great initiative to secure their intangible cultural heritage
by continuing their ancestral legacy.

It is important to preserve the intangible cultural heritage like the Palov culture and tradition in
Uzbekistan and its tourism industry because it draws tourists to experience this one-of-a-kind
intangible cultural heritage that can only be explored within the local communities. It is to
acknowledge and protect their identity as a nation. Every nation has its own cultural heritage that
needs to be celebrated on special occasions to highlight the traditional techniques of the local
culture as well as sustain and nurture each cultural diversity. It is a great initiative that each
country has strictly implementing the preservation and bringing into life every now and then they
intangible cultural heritage so that we can showcase and exhibit to each other and to the other
nations that different cultural groups can take part in current and conventional rural and urban
traditions. Furthermore, it is also important to have an efficient relationship with each other
while having to deeply understand their culture with the help of exhibiting their traditions.

Some contributions of intangible cultural heritage to the tourism industry of Uzbekistan is, it
establishes a unique learning experience for tourists on any occasion by visiting these urban and
rural communities to first hand explore and experience their cultural heritage and tradition. These
give opportunities for both sides, for example first with the locals, it provides a great opportunity
to exhibit and promote their country’s exceptional sustainable tourism considering at the same
time preserving their historical identity that it is the epitome of their ancestral tradition that is
learned and master not by formal education that was taught in school but just by pure knowledge,
capability and competency by their countrymen to expertise such long-established preservation.
The tourism industry is a dynamic and competitive field that demands the ability to adapt to fast-
changing customer needs and desires continuously, like customer satisfaction, safety, and
enjoyment which are the number one priority of each of the business industry but it is also
beneficial that somewhere in every country like what the tourism industry of Uzbekistan
implement which keeping its culture and tradition can exhibit a unique approach that doesn’t
adapt to the fast-moving changes in our generation.
