Good Day fellow students, teachers and parents at home.

I am Alberth
Balase, grade 5 student here at Liceo de Cagayan University Grade school.

I am going to talk about proper handling and usage of harmful materials that can be
found in our homes and inside our school.

The most important reason for harmful materials and dangerous

goods training and information like what I am doing right now is to ensure the health
and safety of each household members, different workplaces like in school and offices,
properties and outside environment. Each harmful object comes with its own side
effects and damage potential. Come and listen as I talk to you common harmful
materials that can be potentially injure you and ways on proper handling it.

A. First we have the sharps

1. Scissors- scissors are used for cutting. It has a sharp edge that can be
accidentally cause skin cuts.
2. Kitchen knives- are used for chopping vegetables and meat. It’s a common
cause of household injury.
3. Cutter- are used for cutting hard objects like wood, hard paper or plastics.

These 3 are dangerous since it can potentially cut our skin. Proper handling of these
sharp edges materials include staying it aways from children and storing it enclosed
cabinets. Putting a shard guard can also be helpful.
Next Electronics

4. Electronics like Television are used in watching news, movies and TV shows to
entertain us. It can potentially harm us since it uses electricity. We can safely turn
off the tv when not in use to prevent heat buildup that can cause fire and
explosion. The Tv also emits radiation so it’s safe to stay away from it and limit
screen usage.

Next what to watch out when doing laundry

We have and detergents

Bleach- bleach is liquid material that are used to get stain in our clothes just like
detergents also. Detergents can be liquid, powder and in a bar form.

Both can be used in whitening stains in our bathrooms. Its ingredients are dangerous
that can cause up set stomach. So its not safe to eat or drink it. Keep it away from little
kids. Its important to put it above cabinets and store it to safe temperatures.

Liquid sosa is used for declogging our sinks and pipes. It is in liquid form that is so
slippery and very corrosive in skin. Which mean it can make you skin itchy and dry..
keep it out of reach from children and its also safe to label it as dangerous chemical for
easy identification. You can use gloves and protective eye wear when using it to protect
you in case there spillage.

At the Kitchen

Both LPG and Stove are used for cooking

LPG- or liquefied purified gas a flammable material that can be potentially cause
explosion and fire when not properly used. When buying it make sure the tank is new
and not rusty. When using make sure theres no leakage of gas. Properly closed the
tank after cooking. Its safe also to put fire extinguisher at home if in case there is fire
while cooking.
Stove- where the LPG is connected can potentially harm us if its not properly used.
Close the stove when not in used and use appropriate control of fire for cooking. From
low to medium or to high. We also need to clean the stove after using to prevent from
rusting.

Next are

Spoon and fork- these are used as eating utensils. These can potentially harm us since
it has pointed edges. We need to use it properly and store it to proper bins.

Glass plate- glass plates are used for eating also. This is where we place our food. It
can harm us when we break it. Breakages can be sharp and can cut our skin. If in case
of breakage when need to use dust pan or gloves in handling sharp objects and keep it
to plastic trash bins for proper disposal

Air freshener- these are used to freshen and make our rooms smells good. It can
potentially harm us if its not used properly. Reading directions for usage is important.
We can store them also away from children and at right temperatures

Ballpens are used for writing.

Push pins are used for posting materials on wood wall or boards.

These two has sharp edges on one side that can potentially poke or puncture us. To
safely use the ball pen its safe to put the cap always when not using it. And for pins to
store it on a plastic container and keep it away from small children. You can tough these
pins slowly and touch the blunt side carefully

That’s the end of my report
