Aim: Simulation of of industrial processes

Tool: LogixPro Simulator

Theory:

A conveyor system is a common piece of mechanical handling equipment that moves materials from
one location to another. Conveyors are especially useful in applications involving the transport of
heavy or bulky materials. Conveyor systems allow quick and efficient transport for a wide variety of
materials, which make them very popular in the material handling and packaging industries. They
also have popular consumer applications, as they are often found in supermarkets and airports,
constituting the final leg of item/ bag delivery to customers. Many kinds of conveying systems are
available and are used according to the various needs of different industries. There are chain
conveyors (floor and overhead) as well. Chain conveyors consist of enclosed tracks, I-Beam, towline,
power & free, and hand pushed trolleys.

Logic Explanation:

A feeder drops material on the conveyor which sends material for further process through one
more conveyor. Conveyor must start automatically when material is dropped on it. Implement
automation of this in PLC using Ladder Diagram programming language. Feeder has a motor
mounted to feel material on conveyer belts. Load cells are installed at the bottom of conveyor belts
to detect if material is present on the conveyor belt. When material falls on conveyor belt 1, motor -
1 shall start, and when material dropped on conveyor belt 2, motor 2 needs to be turned On.
Switches can also be used sometimes to detect material’s presence. But for more reliable operation,
Load cells can be used as shown in the above diagram.

Ladder Logic:

Ladder description:

Rung 000: It contains Two NO switches and One NC switch with one output coil, where two NO
Switches are connected in parallel.
Rung 001: This rung has One NO switch and has One output coil, address is same for switch and coil.
Rung 002: It has Three NO switches and One NC switch with One output coil, where Two NO
switches in parallel and one is separate.
Rung 003: It is last rung, here Four NO switches and One NC switch with output is connected, where
three switches are connected in parallel and left one is separate.
