Welcome to the Contemporary Philippine Arts from the Regions Alternative


Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on Various Contemporary Art Forms.

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators from
public institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the learners meet the
standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and economic
constraints in schooling.

This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their needs and
circumstances.

The hand is one of the most symbolized part of the human body. It is often used to
depict skill, action and purpose. Through our hands we may learn, create and accomplish.
Hence, the hand in this learning resource signifies that you as a learner is capable and
empowered to successfully achieve the relevant competencies and skills at your own pace
and time. Your academic success lies in your own hands!

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to process
the contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.

Arts may come in various forms particularly, contemporary arts. Most artist in the 20 th
century diverted into abstraction from the realistic representation of human figures and ways
of living. These evolution in the creation of art is the trend at present. These resulted in the
development of technology and the needs of the society.
At the end of this module, you are expected to:

2. recognizes the value of the various contemporary art forms; and
3. demonstrates an understanding of the various contemporary art forms .

Contemporary art seems difficult to understand compare to traditional art. When you
go to a contemporary art museum or see a bizarre artwork in social media with a vague
message, we tend to question the quality of the artwork. Well, that is the appeal of
contemporary art. Traditional art viewers tend to focus on the aesthetic factor of the art while
in contemporary art they are much interested on the process on how the art was made. That
is why contemporary artist tried every artforms they can utilize to produce a work of art.

What is Artform?
Artform is defined as an established structure, pattern, or scheme followed in shaping
an artistic work. It is the medium for artistic expression.

What are the different contemporary artforms?

1. VISUAL ARTS
The visual art is a way of expressing feeling, emotion, opinion, or taste through visual
means. It is primarily created for aesthetic purposes, and judged for its beauty and
meaningfulness. Visual arts include for instance:
Paintings are grouped based on the design in which
they’re created in addition to the genre and chief object of
this painting. Still life, seascapes, landscapes, abstract
and pop art would be. Additionally, the type of moderate
used for its painting such as acrylic colors, pastels,
watercolors, charcoal along with the surface it is painted
while it’s paper or canvas.

Drawing is a rendering by hand via the medium of pen,


pencil, charcoal, etc. It is a depiction of that which we
see.It may be subjective, demonstrating thoughts and
emotions that can be all open to interpretation and which
are in this artist’s brain.

Sculptures will also be one of the various art types that


fall beneath visual artwork. PpSculptures may be
described as an art form which uses substances such as
rock, clay or timber.
Photography is the art of creating a picture of the object
on a photographic picture. There are various sorts of
photography, from food photography to wedding
photography, wildlife photography, style photography and
much more.

Calligraphy is the process of composing letters in a way


it appears visually attractive. To get calligraphy, a
particular calligraphy pen with a level nib or brushes
dipped in paint is frequently utilized.

Stencil a device for applying a pattern, design, words,


etc., to a surface, consisting of a thin sheet of cardboard,
metal, or other material from which figures or letters have
been cut out, a coloring substance, ink, etc., being
rubbed, brushed, or pressed over the sheet, passing
through the perforations and onto a surface.

2. PERFORMING ARTS

Performing arts are basically arts or skills that require a performance in front of a public
audience. Examples are acting, singing and dancing. Other forms of the Performing Arts
include opera, theatre, magic or illusion performances, mime, spoken word, recitation and
public speaking. People in this field are termed, performers.

Plays have set texts, are written by playwrights, and are


performed by actors under the vision of a director. While
all civilizations can trace formal storytelling tradition to
their early days, contemporary commercial playwrights
represent a greater range of diversity than any other
time in history. (Types of Contemporary Theatre &

Theater as a kind of art has developed from medieval


times to turn into among the greatest modes of
amusement. Theater artists perform before the
audience. Amongst are the example of theater:
a. Documentary theater uses materials like
news reportage, interviews, government reports,
and other documentation as source material for
theatrical production.

b. Dance-theater has yet to find a definitive


definition, although the consensus is that it is a
form of dance in which all the traditional elements
of theatre (plot, story, character, visual elements,
spoken, or sung text) are embraced.
c. Street theater is played outdoors, in public
spaces, in front of any audience that is willing to
gather. PStreet performers can perform music,
monologues, juggling, tightrope walking, or any
skill that might gather a crowd and inspire
contributions from onlookers. (Types of

Dance is a sort of non-verbal communicating and


motion of the human body is visually pleasing and
compatible. Dancing, in addition to both classical, are
kinds of doing art.

Music is the action of making sound with all the voice at


a rhythmic fashion in order to be pleasing to the ear as
well popularly referred to as singing. Using musical
instruments frequently accompanies singing. There are
various singing styles which range from classical,
contemporary, country, pop, etc.

Spoken Word is writing that is meant to be read out


loud. Some examples of spoken word you might be
familiar with are stories, poems, monologues, slam
poetry, rap and even stand-up comedy. Spoken word is
written on a page but performed for an audience. It relies
on a heavy use of rhythm, improvisation, rhymes, word
play, and slang.

3. APPLIED ART
Applied art are usually functional objects which have been "prettified" or creatively
designed with both aesthetics and function in mind. Applied art embraces a huge range of
products and items, from a teapot or chair, to the walls and roof of a railway station or concert
hall, a fountain pen or computer mouse.
Architecture could be categorized as employed or
commercial art. Construction and designing some
structure may appear to be a marvel of mathematics
fiction, but the design that is fantastic is a sort of artwork.

Fashion design is the art of designing clothing that’s


aesthetically pleasing in addition to functional. Fashion
design entails working with unique kinds of designs and
fabrics that are designed to clothes.
Jewelry layout is also a distinctive type of artwork and it
includes the look of complex parts of jewelry out of metals,
plastic or wood. Metals which are primarily employed for
designing jewelry include silver, gold, nickel, aluminum,
etc.

The term "craft" denotes a skill, usually employed in


branches of the decorative arts (eg. ceramics), or in an
associated artistic practice (eg. lace-making). A key
feature of crafts is that they involve a high degree of
"hands-on" craftsmanship (hence the colloquial term
"handicrafts) rather than just skill with a machine. Some
crafts that are practiced by artists working alone are
sometimes referred to by the vague term "studio craft".
Metal work, wood turning, glass blowing, and glass art are
examples of "studio crafts", as is pottery.

4. LITERARY ARTS

The Literary Arts relate to the written word and include writing, editing, critiquing,
teaching, reviewing, and other activities related to written communication. The "book arts" are
related to a book's physical presentation and can involve its paper, binding, printing, or design.
Possible occupational titles include: writer, editor, reviewer, teacher, librarian, archivist,
researcher, publisher, interpreter, and translator.
