RECAP
In the previous module, there are five (5) in the Elements of Dance that were
discussed, which are body, action, space, time, and energy. It can be
remembered through the abbreviation “BASTE”.
 Body refers to the what is being used to perform – the parts, shapes, and
figures made by the body and their relationship with the other elements.
 Action pertains to the movements that the dancer performs, which includes
the dance steps, facial expressions, and gestures. It is divided into two:
locomotor, which moves the body from one location to the other, and non-
locomotor movements, which do not cause the body to move to another
space.
 Space is the relationship of the dancer to another dancer and the area where
the dance occurs. The space can be analyzed through the place where the
dancer is, whether they are dancing on a spot (personal space) or through
the space (general space)
 Time is the rhythm, metered or free, in dance. Time is divided into three
kinds: clock time, sensed time, and event-sequence.
 Lastly, energy is how dance movements happen. This helps convey the
emotion of the routine.

LESSON

The Order of National Artists, or Orden ng Gawad Pambansang Alagad ng

Sining, is the highest rank and title given to Filipino artists who have greatly
contributed to the evolution of Philippine Arts. A person can be honored for one or
more of the 7 categories: visual arts, music, dance, theater, literature, film and
broadcast arts, and architecture and allied arts. The Cultural Center of the
Philippines (CCP) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)
are the institutions that oversee the order. Individuals are recognized as National
Artists upon their recommendation, with President of the Philippines bestowing the
award.

The colors of the logo of the Order of National Artists

symbolize the Philippine flag. In the middle, there are
three Baybayin characters read as “ᜃᜃᜃᜃᜃka” which
stand for the CCP’s motto: “Katotohanan, Kabutihan,
at Kagandahan”.

As a symbolism of their rank and status, National

Artists are given an insignia, the Grand Collar. It is a
silver-gilted bronze which features the arts on
circular links and the logo hanging on a sampaguita
wreath in green and white enamel.
