VERTICAL COMMUNICATION:
The communication in which the flow of information between employees, departments and units is in
two opposite levels in an organization.
Vertical communication is further classified into three types,
 Downward or Top Down Communication
 Upward or Bottom Up Communication
 Crosswise or Diagonal Communication

Downward or Top Down Communication;


In Downwards communication, the information flows from upper level or superior to lower level or
subordinate.
For example,
New project allotted by department manager to employee.

Upward or Bottom Up communication;


In Upward communication, the information flows from lower level or subordinate to upper level or
superior.
For example,
Team leader reports to his manager about the problems being faced in the completion of the
project.

Crosswise or Diagonal communication;


In Crosswise communication, the information flows between people working in two different levels of
organization.
For example,
Employee of sales department communicates with senior supply chain manager.

LATEST TRENDS IN BUSINESS COMMUNICATION:
1. Unified communication is increasing as it reduces organization costs and contains additional
features for a better responsive experience such as phone, chat services, feedback, messaging and
commenting system etc.
2. Video communication has started playing a superior role in business meetings such as Video
conferencing, which also provide collaboration options such as screen sharing and document
sharing etc.
3. IP messaging or real time messaging will become the email of developing market. For example
WhatsApp and Skype etc.
4. The Mobile phones are replacing the use of office phones.
5. The growth of cloud communication services will be on the rise.
6. A rapid increase in diverse workforce.
