SUBJECT: Proposal to develop a graduation ready skills initiative prior to students graduating
from high school.

The following proposal outlines the ways to improve language communication skills prior to
students graduating from high school based on the concerned objectives regarding requirements
of a communications course. Thank you for your time and consideration to implement the
strategies presented on the following pages. I can be reached at any time for further questions or
elaboration at (479) 715-1389.

Sincerely,

Candace Gonzalez

Problem

There is a concern of graduating students not having the skillset needed to successfully navigate
necessary communication skills such as, interviewing, understanding group behavior concepts
and conflict resolution methods, or language communication skills, and how to improve this as it
is no longer a required curriculum in school.

Objective

My goal is to come up with a standard practice or curriculum to implement into the classroom
prior to graduation. This will help give a better understanding to the students on communication
skills and areas that they need improvement and ways to get the help needed to succeed past high
school and into college and working careers.

Solution

A graduation exit course:

1. Doing debate as their activity in the class.
2. They may include an essay at the end of the assessment.
3. The teacher will add engaging activities on which the students need to speak, like in a report
format.
4. Indulge the students in reading material and give them situational questions and get the class
in a group discussion.
5. Mock interviews with teacher and peer feedback.

Method

1. Debate is one of the activities that helps critical thinking and speaking of the students. They
will need to justify their answer and they need to depend for them to win
2. At the end of lesson, the teacher must create situational question related to the topic.
Interview questions composed of situational questions.
3. Reporting is another way because to help to create one’s own ideas based on their
understanding on the lesson.
4. Give them reading material on which they will become knowledgeable on their course before
they enter to the new world. Practice with them to answer situational questions.
5. Practicing interviews is the best way to become comfortable in your own skin. Getting peer
and teacher feedback will help point out areas that need improvement as in constructive
criticism. Sometimes it is good to hear the hard stuff when it doesn’t matter, vs. not getting
the job or accepted to the college they wanted.

Conclusion
With a few simple steps implemented into the classroom or a mini class geared as a graduation
exit class, we can instill the skills needed into the students. It can help provide the students with
the confidence and direction needed on how to proceed moving forward outside of high school
and be successful in whichever path they take.
