Question 1 –

“It is important to evaluate the success and effectivesness of your course so

that you could make improvements on an ongoing basis.” Justify the
statement with reference to Kirpatrick’s model . You need to mention relevant
activities to access each stage.

Answer:

Giving feedback of people i.e students, pupils and guardians becomes an

imperative component of the educational department. It is an important tool to
regularly review and evaluate the effectiveness of compliance training. This
model elucidates the learning criteria , assists in plans and procedures and
assessment of training outcomes.

“ Kirpatrick’s Four level Model” assists the creaters of training courses in

judging the effectiveness of their TESOL courses.

Kirpatrik’s Models’ Levels of Evaluation:

Level 1: Reaction:

What did the learners think and feel about the training?

This is one of the primary steps of Kirpatrick’s Model. It aids a teacher in

understanding how the lessons were percieved by the students. For
Kirpatrick , learner satisfaction was an important element of the course
framework. If the syllabus of the students becomes clear and lucid for all by
one particular technique, the same technique can be employed by the
teachers in the future. The more interested the students are, the more
encouraged they become to explore more . Without student
satisfaction, according to Kirpatrick, the knowledge would be limited and the
training quotient reduced. It calls out for relevant and specific questions. For a
more explicit and elaborate feedback , the student trainers can get a feedback
form filled by the students and make appropriate amendments.

Level 2: Learning:

What is the level of learning required?

The second important factor of the Kirpatrick’s model is learning or level of

knowledge gained. The level is very important and psychometric measures
are employed to access efficiency and learning outcomes. Learners directly
engage with the course and provide statistics on how well they have
understood the subject matter. Placement tests ,quizzes and games can be
organized for the students to test their knowledge.
After the course is over , students can be guided based on the topics covered
in the course. It can stress on reading ,listening ,writing ,speaking or grammar.

The teachers can also boost the learner’s confidence by:

a) Having healthy discussions on various topics

b) Having a flexible and unconventional approach towards teaching.
c) Having some self-assessment kits for the students

Level 3: Behaviour:

Are the appropriate behaviors being implemented?

Sometimes it is a possiblity that the students don’t actually practice what they
learn in the classroom. This measurement of behaviour is easier than that of
reaction and learning. But sometimes , it can also be difficult to measure the
effectiveness .

The impact of training programs can be measured by:

a) Behavioral assessment(interviews and group discussions)

b) The way through which skills and knowledge is inseminated.
c) Creating and displaying an end –of-course presentation.
d) Questionaires to mark significant changes
e) Exams and tests

Level 4: Result:

What results/effect did the training have on business?

This level is supposed to be the most important as it is result oriented. It

represents the improved performance of the students.Primarily , it is based on
how effortlessly the students use English language in their day to day
conversations. Actual performances need to be measured to make sure that
appropriate behaviours are conducted. Further, the impact of these
behaviours can be assessed in the form of proper discussions and debates.

Some questions to be kept in mind while determining the goal :

a)What is the goal?

b)Why is the goal(outcome) important?

c)Time taken to achieve this goal?

Level 5 : Return on investment:

The output on investment:

ROI taps on the benefits provided from the training program. It is an overview
of how this model aids an organisation in evaluating the
performance, effectiveness and progress in order to achieve success.lt
oriented. It represents the improved performance of the students.Primarily , it
is based on how effortlessly the students use English language in their day to
day conversations. Actual performances need to be measured to make sure
that appropriate behaviours are conducted. Further, the impact of these
behaviours can be assessed in the form of proper discussions and debates.

Questions that can be raised:

a)What is the ROI?Is it really worth it?

b) Are the needs and requirements of the learners met ?

c)What input is yet to be implemented?
