CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background

Social networking is the use of internet-based social media sites to stay connected with
friends, family, colleagues, customers, or clients. Social networking can have a social
purpose, a business purpose or both, through sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and
Instagram [1]. Usually, we use social media sites like Facebook to stay connected with our
faculty, friends, teachers etc... We use Facebook groups for the purpose of providing notices,
announcements etc.

As Facebook is not a dedicated app for that purpose, providing notices and announcements is
not so efficient.

Communication and socialization are the most crucial for the students and teachers so we aim
to provide an efficient and easy way for students and teachers to communicate and share
notice, ideas etc.

1.2 Problem Statement

As we are using Facebook groups for the purpose of communication between college
students and teachers, students are facing problems like miscommunication, not being able to
see announcements in time, not having proper communication etc...

1.3 Objectives

The main goals of our project are:

I. To establish the proper communication between the faculty members and the students.

II. To make a dedicated application for the purpose of providing Campus’s announcement.

1.4 Applications

Our project will be used in educational institutions like:

I. College
II. Campus
III. School etc.

1.5 Project Features

1
To overcome the drawbacks of the existing system, the proposed system has been evolved.
This project aims to save time to generate efficient ways to create an environment for
socialization between students and tutors. The system provides the best user interface.
Efficient updates can be generated by using this proposed system. It is trouble-free to use. It
is a relatively fast approach to get information highly reliable, approximate result from user,
best user Interface, efficient report. The proposed system also allows the teacher to interact
with the students using the web application. It also allows the students and the teachers to
communicate.

The main features of this project are:

I. Post announcements, news related to faculty

II. Chat with classmates and faculty members
III. Users can edit their profile

1.6 Feasibility Analysis

A feasibility study is an assessment of the practicality of a proposed project or system. A

feasibility study aims to objectively and rationally uncover the strengths and weaknesses of
an existing business or proposed venture, opportunities and threats present in the natural
environment, the resources required to carry through, and ultimately the prospects for
success. In its simplest terms, the two criteria to judge feasibility are cost required and value
to be attained.

Our feasibility study should provide a historical background of the project, a description of
the project. s, details of the operations and management and policies, financial data, legal
requirements. Generally, feasibility studies precede technical development and project
implementation. A feasibility study evaluates the project's potential for success; therefore,
perceived objectivity is an important factor in the credibility of the study for potential
investors and lending institutions. It must therefore be conducted with an objective, unbiased
approach to provide information upon which decisions can be based.

1.6.1 Economic Feasibility

The project will develop as a final year project and since our project is totally focused on web
app, there is no manual cost that will be spent for the project. All the resources are already

2
available, it may be lower cost to spend and software (i.e., VS code, HTML, CSS, PHP might
include react library, node.js etc.) are freely available.

1.6.2 Technical Feasibility

We are going to develop this project on replit.com which is the online compiler provided for
free to the students, VS code, Figma for designing. SQLite for databases will be used. It will
be tested on replit.com and other web browsers like google chrome, safari etc.

1.6.3 Operational Feasibility

To work our project in the real world, it requires an internet connection. As it is a web-based
app, it only requires a device that can run in any web browser.

1.7 System Requirement

Some major system requirements are:

1.7.1 Software Requirement

Software required to make our project are:

● VS code IDE
● Figma
● Notion (for note taking)
● Replit

1.7.2 Hardware Requirement

3
The hardware like desktop, laptop and mobile devices are required but they should at
least have the following configurations:

● 800 MHz processor

● At least 1024 MB RAM
● Operating System required: Any OS that can run browsers.

CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW

4
College Social Network is an amazing site for both teachers and students that helps to take
and manage the particular information or the particular news. This site can be used by any
teacher whether you are a school teacher or college professor or professional lecturer. This
site provides the schedule, notice and news.

For further understanding of the study, the researchers made use of different reading
materials related to the online system. These materials such as books, magazines,
newspapers, thesis and other web articles are essential in broadening the knowledge of the
researchers. These will also guide the researchers to achieve their target objectives by getting
ideas on other related studies and make improvements as possible.

The information gathered by the researchers focuses on the development of educational

purposes. The researchers also sum up the different techniques on how to gain web visitors
and eventually convince them to purchase the products based on some surveys gathered by
the past studies. Some of the programming background skills needed to create a website are
also being discussed to further understand why the researchers chose PHP as front end and
MySQL as backend of the proposed system.

CHAPTER 3: METHODOLOGY

5
To develop the web app, we must to follow feasibility study about requirement analysis
of the project so we need to add and change the requirement as well as sometimes
process too, for getting better performance of the project that’s why we need to use
Agile method because it is fast and able to make quick changes, it divides the task into
short phase with iteration for improving the overall project which make the project
flexible too.

The system of collecting data for research projects is known as research methodology. The
data may be collected for either theoretical or practical research for example management
research may be strategically conceptualized along with operational planning methods and
change management. Information which was used for this study was carried out by oral
interview.

CHAPTER 4: EPILOGUE

4.1 Expected Output

7
The expected output is related to the news or information that the user inputs. After
launch we are expecting to have as much as user interaction. After the completion of the
project, we are expecting the following outputs which will minimize the problems as well as
solve the existing problems.

● To create platform for students and tutors to share ideas

● Dedicated app for the faculty to provide notice, announcements to students
● Platform for students to socialize

4.2 Budget Analysis

11
All the resources are already available so it may be lower cost to spend and software like VS
code, Figma, etc. are freely available.

ITEM DESCRIPTION AMOUNT (RS.)

Windows 10 FREE
PHP FREE
Internet 12,000 per year
DATA COLLECTION 1,000
FLASH DISK 5000
STATIONERY AND PRINTING 500
HOSTING CHARGES 10,000 per year
MISCELLANEOUS COST 4,000
TOTAL: 32,500

4.3 Work Schedule

Our project is simple and easy for developing the knowledge of communication techniques.
We hope that it will be completed by the deadline submission of 7th semester 2021.

APPENDICES

This case study looks at the problem of not having proper communication between the tutors
and the students. Communication gap is the main reason behind the misunderstanding. Apart
from communication in other sites like Facebook it has been linked to higher other media
interaction. Teachers as well as the students are not taking the sites for the means of
communication but they take it as a means of entertainment.

This service of (COLLEGE SOCIAL NETWORKING) will be user friendly which only
focuses on the particular news or information or the post which means the following sites are
only used for the information purpose. Now, if the user wants to post something, the user is
free to post. It will create an environment for the students and teachers to share ideas, news
and information with each other.
