III.-READING
Read the article and decide if the statements are true (T) or false (F).
Last month I saw a job advertised online which really caught my attention. It was for a wildlife
caretaker on an Island between Australia and Papua New Guinea. As someone who’s always loved
being outside and is interested in the environment, it sounded like a wonderful opportunity. In fact,
the more I read about the responsibilities involved and what the successful applicant should be like,
the more I felt that this advert was talking to me.
The advert said that the successful candidate must have a deep interest in nature and want to help
look after the native wildlife of the island. They would have to be motivated, hardworking and the
kind of person that thinks outside the box – in other words, is good at solving problems in different
ways. Their main duties would involve spending time with the animals in the wild and giving
information to tour guides to help them plan their tours of the island. They would also have to do
some research into the native wildlife and explore the island and its surrounding waters. Additional
duties of the job included writing articles and regular updates* on island life as well as keeping a
photo diary of life on the island, and the ideal candidate would have experience of doing both. I
immediately thought, ‘That’s me they’re talking about. I have to go for this job!’ and sent in my
application.
Now, I wasn’t expecting to get the job as there was a lot of competition. It’s not every day that a job
like working on Kimberley Island comes up. But I had a good feeling. A week later, I got a call from
an unknown number. It was an invite to go for an interview. I can’t remember what happened in the
days that followed as there was so much happening but I can tell you that in two week’s time, I am
flying to Australia to start my dream job. I have to say, I’m feeling on top of the world!
