LESSON PLAN

Grade: 11 Title: Personal Painting Duration: 8-15 classes

Overview of lesson.
For this lesson students will be given the choice of completing a personal painting.
The personal painting is where the students look introspectively to create an artwork that interests them and
share some type of meaning in their life. This could also include something that they like. They must use canvas
and paint for this project.

Introduction (2 min.):
For your next artwork this will be a student choice. You have the choice to create a personal project using any
medium or a personal painting using canvas and paint.
You will need to include a title, description, and a reflection for this artwork when you are finished,

Body (40 min.):


Steps and Procedures
Activity #1: Performance Task [Direct Instruction] (5 mins)
*Hand out performance task.
Here is the performance task for this project. This outlines some requirements and the assignments.

You will choose either a personal project or a personal painting. The project can be any medium – approved by
me and the painting you are using either canvas or wood board.

Use the rest of this class to plan and think about what you would like to create. Then pre-plan- draw this out in
your sketchbook and bring this to me to be approved.

While you are researching/planning think about these questions:


1. How can you integrate your own style and personal experiences in an eye-catching
artwork?
2. How can incorporating colour affect 3 dimensional forms?

Activity #2: Pre-planning [Student work time] (30 minutes)


This time is used for students to pre-plan and really think about what they want to be creating.

I will be coming around and checking in on you to make sure you’re on the right track.
