Refractory Materials

Refractory materials are made of fire clay, Calcium silicate, Aluminium Silicate,
Corundum, Vermiculite, etc. with Al2O3 and SiO2 as primarily compositions

Important parameters for refractory materials:

1. Maximum service Temperature
2. Chemical Analysis
3. Cold Crushing Strength
4. Bulk Density
5. Thermal Conductivity
6. Abrasion Resistance
7. Bonding type – hydraulic or chemical ceramic, etc.
8. Application type

In case of CFBC / AFBC boiler refractory lining, it has to satisfy the following
requirement to achieve the desired useful life
- Avoiding leakage of gas flows through refractory lining
- Thermal Stability
- Chemical Stability
- Abrasion Resistance
- Dimensional Stability - Thermal Expansion and Shrinkage levels
- Defined thermal conductivity
- Maintain the shapes & contours

In AFBC/ CFBC, materials used are

1. Low iron Fire Clay bricks in the bottom
2. Crushed Refractory bed materials, with a top size limited < 3 mm for AFBC
and < 1 mm for CFBC
3. Castable Refractory Lining in the Fluidized Bed Area, Burner area, wall for
wear protection and ducting
4. High Alumina brick for Cyclone
