ANTIFOAM COMPOUND – SILAF RANGE

DESCRIPTION
Antifoams are used in a wide variety of foaming systems and in very small concentrations, usually only a
few parts per million. Foam can cause major inconvenience in industry resulting in damage to goods,
overflow of vessels, loss of valuable products and reduced plant efficiency.

The SILAF ranges of Antifoam Compounds are a specially formulated product that it used for various
applications in different industries. They find use in many processes which include Chemical,
Polymerization, Paint, Resin, Inks etc.

Foaming is a property that demands immediate solution in order to achieve high productivity. Nature of
foam differs depending on the industry involved. However, it always occurs as a concentrated dispersion of
air or gas bubbles in a liquid medium which is stabilized by impurities, i.e. fine solid suspensions,
surfactants, proteins, starches, etc.

Silicone defoamers are generally preferred for better stability and more lasting defoaming power in very
small concentrations. SILAF is extremely cost effective, as it is designed to work efficiently and
economically.

SPECIAL FEATURES

METHOD OF USE
The SILAF range of Antifoam Compounds, may be used “as is”, or after dilution with suitable diluents or
the process liquid. The SILAF range is convenient to use. They defoam, effortlessly, any kind of foam.
They could be used as such, however, it is recommended to dilute them in suitable diluents before addition
to the medium for higher efficiency. The products may be pre-dispersed for non-aqueous systems in
naphtha, kerosene, amyl acetate, 2-ethylhexanol, white spirit, toluene and other aromatic, aliphatic or
chlorinated hydrocarbons etc.

For aqueous systems, they may be pre-dispersed in isopropanol or tertiarybutylalcohol. They may also be
pre-dispersed in one of the components of the foaming system.

To obtain best results, it is advisable to dilute the product before use. Dilution can be done by mixing 3 to
10 parts of diluent to 1 part antifoam with gentle stirring to get a uniform mixture. Continued gentle stirring
is recommended to ensure product uniformity over extended storage times. The final dosage of the antifoam
in the system depends on the kind of system, type of foam and the intensity of the foaming problem.
Usually, dosages range from 10 to 300 ppm and are found to be sufficient for most applications. For wide
foaming surfaces the defoamer should be sprayed at various points on the surface to ensure uniform
dispersion. However, clients must test the product for suitability and concentration required depending on
the application, intensity of the problem and the process in which the actual foaming occurs.
