What is Half Short and Full Short in Mobile Phone

PCB?
Half Short / Half Shorting

Half Short or Half Shorting of a Mobile Phone PCB is the Condition when a Phone Gets
Switch ON and it also works but the Battery Drain Very Fast. This means that there is some
dry solder on the PCB of the Phone or some small Component such as a SMD Capacitor is
Faulty and Need to be Removed / Replaced.

Full Short / Full Shorting

Full Short or Full Shorting of a Mobile Phone PCB is the Condition when a Phone does
NOT gets Switch ON and the Phone is Dead. This means that one or more than 1 of some
Major Electronic Component is Faulty and the Board needs to be checked thoroughly to
Fix the Problem.
How to Check Shorting in Mobile Phone with
Multimeter
How to Check Half Shorting

1. Keep the Digital Multimeter in BUZZER Mode.

2. Check the Battery Connector of the Phone in Forward (Red Probe on Positive
and Black Probe on Negative). If Value on the Multimeter is 1 then the PCB is OK
and there is NO Shorting.
3. If in Forward Checking the Value is 25 then there is Half Short.
4. Now Check the Battery Connector in Reverse (Red Probe on Negative and Black
Probe on Negative). If Value on the Multimeter is Between 350 to 650 the there is
NO Shorting and the PCB is OK.
5. If in Reverse Checking Value is 350 then there is Half Shorting.
6. If Value is SAME in Both Forward and Reverse Checking then there is Half Short.

How to Check Full Shorting

1. If there is BEEP Sound in Both Forward and Reverse Checking then there is Full
Short.
2. If we connect Positive (+) and Negative (–) of the Battery Connector to a DC Power
Supply Machine and Amp Starts to Decrease without Switching ON the Phone,
Then there is Full Shorting in the PCB of the Phone.

Solution to Fix Shorting in Mobile Phone

Thoroughly with IPA Solution and the Apply Heat All over the Board using Hot Air
Blower Machine.
2. Assembly Back the Phone and Check if the Problem is Solved or Not.
3. In Most Cases the Problem gets Solved. But if there is still Half Shorting then
Check for Tiny SMD Capacitors Near the Battery Connector. Remove the Faulty
One.
4. In case of Full Shorting, Connect the Positive (+) and Negative (–) of the Battery
Connector to a DC Power Supply Machine. Amp will Start to Decrease without
Switching ON the Phone. This means there is Full Shorting in the PCB of the
Phone. The Faulty Component will get Heated. You can feel the Heat of the Faulty
Component with your Fingers. This Component needs to be Replaced.

How To Check Repair Battery

2:08 PM byMuhammad Asif Azeemi Post a Comment

Us we knew battery consumption has become a very common problem in today's cell phones and
smartphones. It's easy to test voltage on any phone battery with the help of the analog and digital
multimeter. in electronics, the symbol V is the unit of voltage. The method of checking a phone
battery is the same for all brands and models Micromax mobile, iPod classic, iPhone, Sony Xperia,
Huawei Smartphone, HTC new phone, Motorola, Lenovo, LG, ZTE Nubia,  BlackBerry, Nokia 6, etc.

Guide To Check Battery with the Digital

Multimeter
How do you test a phone battery

Carefully remove the battery from the phone. you can read battery voltage on the label of the
battery. Most feature phones and smartphone batteries are 3.7V or 3.8Volts. Now find the digital
multimeter DC Volt setting on the meter measurement scale. It may be indicated with DCV. In DCV
(DC Voltage) there will be many settings like 2V, 20V, 200V, 1000V. Keep the setting on 10V or 20V
in a multimeter. Now follow the picture below to touch the probe of the multimeter on the
terminal of the battery.

how to test aa battery with multimeter

Remember, Keep probes touched until you see a stable reading on the reading scale of the
meter. If the reading scale on the meter shows more than 3.70 then the battery is fully charged.
And if it is less than 3.70 you will have to charge the battery with a charger. after charging for a
long time with the phone original charger, if the battery still showing the same volt on the meter,
then the battery is faulty. your phone will not switch on. You will need to buy a new battery
because it is not repairable.
Note: If the battery is drained and showing 0 voltage or say less than 2.9, you can repair it with the
battery booster.

if you want to know how to check a phone battery with an analog multimeter and get updated
before the year 2021 then this how to use analog multimeter in mobile repairing help you lots

What is the battery booster?

Now, a battery booster is mainly used when you need to boost a dead battery. Many times when I
get phones for repairing they might be no battery left out in it and I may need to have a little bit of
charge. you may need a little bit of charge in the battery to be able to test or check it out. So at
that moment, we use the battery booster to ensure that they are able to jumpstart the battery a
little- similar to what you do in four-wheelers when you have to jumpstart your car batteries when
it's dead or very low. So, that is where we used this booster.

A mobile battery boosting machine is used to Boost a Dead Battery of any Feature Phone,
Smartphone, or Apple iPhone. if you have a battery booster it's ok and if not I have the Best Advice
for You. I list down the two best battery booster names it full fills your phone battery repair need.

How many amps should a battery booster have?

battery booster gives a standard output of 500 milli ampere and it's a fixed output booster gives
that can be used to temporarily boost the battery of the phone.

How long does it take to charge a battery with a battery booster?

We typically switch the battery booster on and once you switch it on you have the power output
coming out. if you are using a DC Power supply to boost the battery you can change the voltage
output that is given by the Power supply, depending on the device or depending on the phone and
smartphone battery you can choose the voltage, adjust the voltage and boost the battery.
boost phone battery

You can see in the picture a plus and minus point you can place the black probe and the red probe
here, which basically can be connected to a phone battery and boost the battery. So, using this
you will be able to boost the battery of any phone, and a traditional battery booster and is a very
effective tool that might be required for battery boosting. if you boost your battery with a battery
booster and the battery is still draining very fast even after fully charging it, you will have to check
it on another same model phone. In such a case an analog and the digital multimeter will not help
because the multimeter just shows you how much your battery is charged. remember if your
phone battery’s inside chemical has become weak or worn out, the battery will discharge quickly.
if you check your battery on the same model phone and it's discharged fast in it too, the battery is
faulty. buy a new battery for your phone and check. If the problem is not solved your phone is still
discharging? Then there is some short-circuit fault in your mobile phone PCB. visit How To Check

Counting Legs or Pins of IC

by Santosh Das | Last Updated On June 27, 2020

Learn How to Read, Count and Identify Legs / Leads or Pins or Balls of an SMD IC Chip /
BGA.

Any mobile phone PCB has several IC or Integrated Circuit. These are SMD or Surface
Mount Electronic Components. Before Counting Legs or Pins of IC or understanding how
to count legs or pins of any IC, let us learn about IC.
What is an IC?
An IC or Chip is an electronic component made up of combination or integration of several
other electronic components like resistor, capacitor, coil, diode, transistor etc.

How Many Types of IC are There?

There are mainly 2 types of ICs:

1. Leg-Type IC: This type of IC or SMD Components have legs or pins or leads.
These types of ICs are again divided into different categories but we will not discuss
it here because it has nothing to do with mobile repairing.
2. Ball-Type IC: This type of IC has BGA (Ball Grid Array) underneath the IC. These
types of ICs are again divided into different categories but we will not discuss it
here because it has nothing to do with mobile repairing.

How to Count Legs or Pins of Leg-Type IC?

Counting of leg-type IC starts in Numerical Digit in Anticlockwise Direction starting from
the Nose Point or Cut Point. Have a look at the photo below to understand it clearly.

How to Count Legs or Pins of Leg-Type IC

How to Count Balls of Ball-Type IC?

Counting of Ball-type IC is done in Both Clockwise and Anti-Clockwise Direction. Rows
are counted in Digit Numbers (1, 2, 3, 4…) in Clockwise Direction. Columns are counted
in Alphabet (A, B, C, D…) in Anti-Clockwise Direction.

NOTE: When counting Columns, “I” and “O” are omitted because they look like “1” and
“0”.

How to Count Balls of Ball-Type IC

This article was aimed at understanding different types of IC and IC  Pin Identification or
how to read IC Pin Details. The main idea behind counting pins on IC, is to identify Pin No
1 on an IC. If you understood how to identify Pin Number 1 of a IC, you can read all the
rest. I hope you found this article on Counting Legs or Pins of IC useful. Do share your
thoughts below. Thanks!

SMD Capacitor – Surface Mount Chip

SMD Capacitor – Surface Mount Chip Capacitor Guide. SMD Capacitor is made of an
insulator between two conductors. There are several types of SMD capacitors. Learn More
here.

SMD Capacitor
What is SMD Capacitor and How is it Made?
SMD Capacitor or Surface Mount Chip Capacitor is an electronic component made up of
an insulator between two conductors. This dielectric matter or insulator plays an important
role of storing electric charge.

There are several types of SMD capacitors. They are divided according to the dielectric
matters used in their composition. Air, paper, mica and electrolyte capacitors are mostly
used.

What is the work of SMD Capacitor?

The main function of any SMD capacitor is to store the electrical energy and re-supply i.e.
charge and discharge electrical energy.

How is SMD Capacitor Made?

SMD capacitor is made up of metallic plates (good conductor of electricity). Both plates are
separated using a bad conductor or dielectric.  The name of a capacitor is dependent on the
dielectric matter used in the capacitor. If the electrolytic capacitor is yellow then its border
are brown. If the capacitor is black then its border is silver.

SMD Capacitor

What is the Graphical Symbol of Capacitor?

The Graphical Symbol of Capacitor is:

Capacitor Symbol

Which character or alphabet indicates a capacitor?

Capacitor is indicated by the alphabet C

What is the Function of a Capacitor?

The main function of a capacitor is to pass AC and stop DC.

What is the Unit of Capacitor?

The Unit of Capacitor is fared.

Ceramic SMD Capacitor

It is a type of capacitor in which ceramic is used as dielectric matter. These capacitors are
rated according to the ceramic electrical properties. The electrical property of ceramic is
multi dimensional.

Use of ceramic significantly reduces the size of SMD capacitor compared to other types of
capacitors. Various ceramic dioxides are used in ceramic capacitors like barium titenate,
barium strontium and titanium dioxide etc. Desired temperature coefficient is obtained by
using various ceramic dielectric products. Di insulation is prepared by using multi layers of
dielectric matters between two good conductors. This reduces the chance of its getting out
or order. Its electrodes are generally plated with silver. This provides a high quality
soldering property to the capacitor.

How to Check Electrolytic Capacitor?

If the value of the capacitor to be checked is 10 mF, then select 20 mF on the Multimeter.
Connect the lead to the CX socket and place the probes on both sides of the soldering tips
of the capacitor. If the display of the screen shows 10 then it means the capacitor is OK. If
the screen shows 000 then it means the capacitor is open. If the screed displays 1 then the
capacitor is short. The capacitor is considered OK if the value is within its tolerance level.
Please note that the above process is not applicable if the value of the capacitor to be
checked is more than 20 mF. Knob of the selector switch should be selected according to
the value of the capacitor.

How to Check Electrolytic Capacitor of Value higher

than 20 mF?
Turn the selector know of the Multimeter on the symbol of Diode. Insert the probes turn by
turn on Com and V / W / F Pins and keep checking the capacitor. If the reading increases
and settles at 1 then it means the capacitor is OK. If the reading in both the cases remains 1
or the reading stops while ascending, it means the capacitor is out of order.

How to Check Simple Capacitor Using Multimeter?

If the reading on the Multimeter shows 000 after testing accompanied with a beep sound, it
means the capacitor is short. If the reading shows 1, it means the capacitor might be open or
even OK.
