Personal Awareness & Responsibility

Strengths

“I can express my needs and seek help when needed”

In my IB English I am always asking peers and my teacher if my essay writing processes or understanding
on certain texts is accurate. It is important for me to seek help for this class when needed because I feel
like English is a hard class for me, so a little extra reassurance and support goes a long way for me.

“I can set goals, regulate my emotions and persevere in difficult emotions”

Last year in grade 11, because of the quarter system there was a very limited amount of time to get
through all the course work for all the classes. In my IB geography class we were given only two weeks
to complete our first draft of the IA’s. The process of completing my IA on time took a lot of goal setting,
regulating my stress and persevering even when I felt stuck.

Weakness

“I take personal responsibility for my choices and actions”

An area of improvement for me is taking personal responsibility for my choices and actions, especially
when it comes to procrastination surrounding homework or putting in less effort on an assignment and
then receiving a lower mark for it. These are the areas in which I must realize that all my actions affect
the outcome and quality of my work.

Social Responsibility
Strengths

“I have positive peer and intergenerational relationships”

Throughout all my classes creating positive relationships with my peers, teachers and friends have
always remained a constant even when I don’t know someone well, I always make it a point to introduce
myself and make others feel welcome.

“I can identify and appreciate different perspectives on issues and use and evaluate strategies to resolve
problems”

In foods’ class we are always working in groups with the shared goal of completing the recipe we are
doing in class that day. When doing this there are always different ways and techniques the people in
my group have so listening to everybody's ideas and going through with the idea that seems to be most
effective is something I go through constantly.

Weakness

“I am aware of my community and environment and work independently and collaboratively for the
benefit of others”
Being more aware and grateful for the community and environment is something I have been working
on as I do not do it enough now. This is important to do as I am privileged to live within a community in
which I feel supported as a student.

Critical Thinking
Strengths

“I can analyze and make defensible judgments, draw conclusions and consider a variety of perspectives”

In Geography class, when debating about certain topics I can stand up for my argument while also
analyzing other people's perspectives.

“I can analyze and critique my work and my learning”

In English class I am always asking for feedback on the work I have handed in as I want to know what I
can change and improve on.

Weakness

“I can explore and create new ways to represent my learning around a variety of problems, events,
issues and needs.

Creative Thinking
Strengths

“I can create new and unique ideas that may provide new perspectives that influence how people think
about topics”

When talking in groups or having group discussions I am always raising my hand and sharing my
thoughts and ideas possibly influencing how others think and perceive certain topics.

“I can take my ideas evaluate, develop, and refine them and make something productive out of them”

In English class, when starting out with an idea for an essay we first have to brainstorm and then start to
refine and edit our thoughts and ideas to make a clear and cohesive essay.

Weakness

“I can persevere and realize that failure can be productive”

When I do bad at certain things or don’t perform as well as I expected on certain tasks, I often feel
discouraged but looking at my failures as opportunities to grow and learn is something I am trying to do
a lot more of.

Communication
Strengths

“I can work with other students to plan, inquire, and solve problems”
I all my classes there is an aspect of group/team work and I believe that I can always work well with
others and solve whatever problem or obstacle we need to tackle.

“I can engage in deep and meaningful inquiry for a variety of purposes and audiences”

Going into deep inquiry for a certain purpose is really hard however I feel that I do this accurately in my
English class when we have to think deeply about a specific poem or book.

Weaknesses

“I can listen, learn to contribute meaningfully to discussion and debate, consider different perspectives
and build consensus”

One thing that I am trying to do better throughout all my interactions with people is to be a better
listener. As a talkative person I hate feeling like I am the one always talking so I make an effort to
actively listen to people and what they have to say.

Personal & Cultural Identity

Strengths

“I know my strengths and what makes me unique”

I believe that knowing what you are good at is extremely important especially in school so it is
something I try to keep track of. For me I have noticed that I am a really good communicator and can
easily talk to people.

“I understand what is important to me”

School is important for so having this realization helps motivate me to work harder.

Weaknesses

“I can define myself in terms of my relationship to others and to the world”

Many times, I forget that I have a relationship with the world and that my actions have a direct impact
on this earth so remembering that I have a responsibility to take care of this earth is really important for
me.
