Identifying Factors of a
1 Given Number up to 100
What’s New

Read each statement carefully and answer it with Yes ,No or None.
1. Divide 100 by 2. Is there a remainder? _____
2. Can we divide 100 by 10? _____
3. Is there a remainder if we divide 100 by 3? _____
4. Can we divide 100 by 20 equally? _____
5. Can we divide 100 by 5? _____

What is It

In identifying the factors of a number, we need to know the divisibility rules. Divisible means
“can be divided”.

1. The number is divisible/ can be divided by 2 if the last digit of the given number is
even.
54 The ones digit is even. So the number is divisible by 2.

2, 4, 6, 8,10,12,14,16,18,20,22, 24, 26, 28,

2 x 27th multiple
30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50,
52, 54 Therefore, 54 is divisible by 2.
2. The number is divisible by 3 if the sum of the digits is divisible by 3

54
5+4=9 9 is divisible by three. Therefore, 54 is
divisible by 3.

3 x 18th multiple 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36, 39,
42, 45, 48, 51, 54
3. The number is divisible by 4 if the last 2 digits of the number is divisible by 4.
54
4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52,
56
there is no 54. Therefore 54 is not divisible
by 4.
84 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52,
56, 60, 64, 68, 72, 76, 80, 84
84 is a multiple of 4. So, it is divisible by 4.

1
4. The number is divisible by 5 if the ones digit is 0 or 5.
5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45,
54 50, 55
The ones digit is not 0 or 5. So 54
is not divisible by 5.
45 , 40
The ones digit is 0 and 5. So, 45
and 40 is divisible by 5

5. The number is divisible by 6 if the number is both divisible by 2 and 3.

54
2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 54 is divisible
22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, by 6
40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, 54

3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30,

33, 36, 39, 42, 45, 48, 51, 54

6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54

6. The number is divisible by 9 if the sum of the digits is divisible by 9.

54 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54

So 54 is divisible by 9
7. The number is divisible by 10 if the ones digit is 0.

54 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60

So 54 is not divisible by 10

54 The factors of 54 are:

1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18, 27, 54

What I Have Learned

Remember:

In identifying the factors of a number, you should master the multiplication table and the
divisibility rules.

● The number is divisible by 2, if the ones digit is (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) or even.

● The number is divisible by 3, if the sum of all the digits of the given number is
divisible by 3.

● The number is divisible by 4, if the last 2 digits is divisible by 4.

● The number is divisible by 5, if the ones digit is 0 or 5.

● The number is divisible by 6, if the number is divisible by both 2 and 3.

2
● The number id divisible by 9, if the sum of the digits is divisible by 9.

● The number is divisible by 10, if the ones digit is 0.
