Objective: At the end of the lesson pupils should be able to :

1. Define non – living things.


2. List some examples of living things.

NON – LIVING THINGS

Non-living things are things that are not alive. Example of such things are:

1. Ball.
2. Teddy.
3. Chair.
4. Car.
5. Basket.
6. Book.
7. Bowl.
8. Broom.
9. Phone.
10.Bulb.
11.Fan.
12.Shoe etc.
The following are the features of a non-living things:

1. They don’t grow.


2. They cannot move on their own.
3. They don’t have babies.
4. They don’t need food, air or water.
5. They don’t feel anything.
6. They don’t pass out waste.
7. They cannot breathe.

1. Define family.
2. List the types of family.

FAMILY

A family is a group of people that are related by blood. It is made up of father,


mother and their children. The father is the husband and the head of the
family. The mother is the wife and she supports the husband.

Types of family

There are two types of family. These are,


1. Nuclear family
2. Extended family
A nuclear family is a simple family that is made up of father, mother and their
children.

An extended family is made up of father mother, children, cousins, nieces,


nephews, uncles, aunts, grandparents and other relations.

TOOLS

A tool is a hand-held device used by people to perform a task. Tools makes


work easier to perform than doing the task with our hands.

IMPORTANCE OF TOOLS

1. It makes our work easier.


2. It makes our work accurate.
3. It makes our work faster.
4. We have little or no waste when we use tools to perform a task.

The following are common tools around us

1. Shovel.
2. Scissors.
3. Ladder.
4. Spanner.
5. Rake.
6. Handsaw.
7. Hammer.
8. Knife.
9. Cutlass.
10.Opener.
11.Tin-cutter.

Crop plants are agricultural produce being obtained after maturity of sown
seed in the soil, with the help of the following factors, Air, water, Oxygen,
Fertile Soil and Temperature.

OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

God created things and man for his glory and to show his great power. So as
his hands works, it is our duties to rule over all other things that he created
and take Care of them.

God also created us so that we may know him, love Him, praise Him, Serve Him
and fear Him etc.

God also created man to show his genuine love to all other things He has
created. We should therefore behave and relate as children of God, obedient
to one another and Shun evil.

WEEK 5 ARTICLE ‘A’, ‘AN’ AND ‘THE’


Objective: At the end of the lesson pupils should be able to:

1. List some examples of article a, an and the.

ARTICLE ‘A’, ‘AN’ AND ‘THE’


Article ‘a’, ‘an’ and ‘the’ are very important little words. ‘a’ and ‘an’ are used to
show things which are not specific.

‘A’ is used with words beginning with a consonant. E.g. a boy, a pen, a ship, a
train, a mouse, a rat, a flower.

‘An’ is used with words beginning vowels e.g. an egg, an apple, an umbrella an
insect an eye.

‘The’ is used to refer to a particular person or thing. It is also used when there
is only one of that particular thing. Examples: the sun, the moon, the earth, the
place etc.

Some places around us are as follow:

1. Bank – A bank is a place where we keep money. We also take money from
the bank.
2. Stadium - A stadium place we play different games. People go to the
stadium to watch games.
3. A Restaurant - This is a place where different kinds of food are sold to
people.

Objective: At the end of the lesson pupils should be able to:

1. List some reasons why we study history.

WHY DO WE STUDY HISTORY

1. History helps us to understand our culture and culture of other people


around us.
2. History helps us to understand our national
identities or sense of belonging to one state or to one nation.

3. History helps us to understand the different societies or people around us.


4. History helps us to know what happened in the past which guides us to live
in the present, and prepare for the future.
5. We study history because, "A people who do not know their history will
repeat the mistakes of the past".
6. History is important because it gives us the sense to understand the current
world. For example, one can understand why some rules exist in the
modern world.
7. The study of history allows one to exercise their serious thinking and skills.
These serious thinking skills are important for all areas of life.
8. The study of history can help to develop your writing ability or speaking
well to different audiences.
9. If we don't study history e.g. of our nation, we won't know when our
leaders are misleading us.
10.Through the study of history, people can know the better way to manage
conflicts among people or nations.

3. A clean and healthy body will make us free from the attack of germs and/or
diseases.
