Use
Use superlative adjectives to compare more than two people, places, or things.
Form
A. Chart
two the + Adj (-y changes to -i) + -est the + happy + -est = the happiest
(ending in -y)
two the + most + Adj the + most + famous = the most famous
(not ending in -y)
three or more the + most + Adj the + most + beautiful = the most beautiful
B. Examples
4. Her last painting is the most beautiful one she’s ever done.

• nice nicest
1 If the adjective ends in -e, add -st. • safe safest
• large largest
• big biggest
If the adjective ends in a consonant-vowel-consonant
2 • wet wettest
(CVC) pattern, double the final consonant and add -est.
• flat flattest
• easy easiest
If the adjective ends with a consonant + -y,
3 • funny funniest
change -y to -i and add -est.
• pretty prettiest
• tall tallest
4 For all other adjectives, add -est. • soft softest
• loud loudest
