Originally established on May 1, 1947 (as Malayan Airways) Singapore Airlines, the flagship airline of the
Singapore Airlines Group, is the parent company to a number of full-service and low-cost airlines as well
as other aviation-related businesses worldwide. Singapore Airlines is majority-owned by the Singapore
government investment and holding company Temasek Holdings. Incorporated on January 28, 1972,
Singapore Airlines (SIA), the national carrier of Singapore, is one of the most successful airlines in the
world. On October 1, 1972, SIA began operations with three flights – one bound for London, the other
for Sydney, and a third on its way back to Singapore. Singapore Airlines flies to 137 destinations in 32
countries on five continents from its primary hub in Singapore. It has been ranked as the world's best
airline by Skytrax four times and topped Travel & Leisure's best airline rankings for more than 20 years.
Today SIA has consistently been one of the most profitable airlines globally, and has always had the
reputation of a trendsetter and industry challenger. It was ranked was ranked 28th in the 2020 list of
Fortune’s “World’s most admired companies”. It was the only South East Asian-based brand and the
highest-ranked Asian company. It was also awarded Best Airline for the 28th consecutive year and Best
Frequent Flyer Programme at the 2019 Business Traveller Asia-Pacific Awards in September 2019, and
consecutively awarded Best Airline in the World by TripAdvisor in 2018 and 2019. Furthermore,
Singapore Airlines was Asia’s first and the world’s third airline that has been accredited by IATA
(International Air Transport Association) with the IOSA (IATA Operations Safety Audit).
UNIFORMS
Originally designed in 1968 by French designer Pierre Balmain, the world famous Singapore Girl
uniforms are an elegant, traditional and easily recognizable signature for Singapore Airlines. The uniform
is made of batik motif material which called as sarong kebaya is inspired by traditional Asian dress worn
in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Burma, Southern Thailand, and the Southern Philippines.
Singapore Airlines has been donning the same uniform since 1968 and it was considered to be the
"longest serving uniform" in the skies. The design draws its inspiration from the original batik motif, it
focusses on 10 flowers native to Singapore. Pierre Balmain made it even sexier by choosing a low-cut,
round neckline. It has different color pattern which represent distinct rankings amongst crews, the
signature blue for flight stewardess, green for leading stewardess, red for chief stewardess and purple
for flight supervisor. Men are similarly distinguished based on the color of their ties. It pays homage to
both SIA’s world-famous brand heritage and Singapore’s status as a garden city. In times of emergency,
the skirt can be lifted up to waist level and tied together, for easier mobility. They won the "Nicest Flight
Attendant Uniform (2013)".
Since the SQ006 crash in 2000, there’s been questions raised about the protectiveness of their sandals
since then they carry more than one pair of shoes. Covered shoes are worn by stewardesses during take-
off and landing.
The Singapore Girl encapsulates Asian values and hospitality, and could be described as caring, warm,
gentle, elegant and serene. It is a brilliant personification of SIA’s commitment to service and quality
excellence. The icon has become so strong that Madame Tussaud’s Museum in London started to
display the Singapore Girl in 1993 as the first commercial figure ever, and did a refresh of the Singapore
Girl wax figure in 2015.

HIGHLIGHTS
Stellar service
The world's most awarded airline boasts exceptional service. Renowned for going the extra mile in
delivering customer service, both in the air and on the ground, Singapore Airlines offers superior on-
board service, which reflects the airline's strong heritage and culture. The airline is also famous for
luxurious flight experiences across cabin classes, with state-of-the-art entertainment options, spacious
cabins and a commitment to making flying a personal experience. Their whole concept is to take care of
you and look after your needs before you need to call them or make a request.
Singapore Airlines runs one of the most comprehensive and rigorous recruitment and training programs
for cabin and flight crew in the industry to make sure the SIA brand experience is fully and consistently
delivered. Their new recruits undergo a four-month training program. That training includes everything
from serving food and understanding the onboard wines to etiquette and cultural sensitivity for travelers
from different countries, from the UK to China.
Choices
SIA was the first to introduce a choice of meals, free alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, free
headphones, hot towels with a unique scent, personal entertainment systems, and video-on-demand in
all cabins. In recent years, they have further differentiated the brand experience through various in-flight
perks.
In-flight Entertainment
It launched KrisWorld, an advanced in-flight entertainment system, across all classes in 1995 on Boeing
747-400, Airbus A310-300, Airbus A340-300 and Boeing 777-200 aircraft. It has approximately 1,800
movies, TV shows and it was the first airline in the world to introduce 3D games on board to watch or
play. Presuming that films are, on average, two hours long, that means roughly 150 days’ worth of
uninterrupted entertainment. Singapore Airlines was also the first airline to give every class video
entertainment back in 2001.
It is where passengers can choose their favorite gourmet main course from a tantalizing selection of
dishes prepared by Singapore Airlines’ International Culinary Panel before their flight. An International
Culinary Panel comprising of eight world-renowned chefs who work together to create the onboard
menus, including Australia’s acclaimed Matt Moran, Suzanne Goin from the United States, and other
leading chefs from Asia and Europe. Singapore Airlines menus are also specially created to reflect culinary
influences of the regions it flies to. Every meal is tested in a simulator to ensure it’s delicious at 30,000ft.
Even in economy and premium economy you can expect well thought out generous and complimentary
meals. That panel includes Michael Hill-Smith, Australia’s first Master of Wine. The wines are chosen not
just for flavour and quality but also for their compatibility with the dishes the airline serves. There are
wines from across the world, including France and Italy
Each seat is upholstered by world-renowned Poltrona Frau, hand-stitched the soft leather armchair and is
fully adjustable using an electronic control side panel which can accommodate a variety of sitting and
lounging positions. The swivel capability of the chair (between 135 and 270 degrees) with recline up to 45
degrees provides added flexibility for dining and relaxation.
