Leadership of Dr Mahatir Muhammad

As Malaysia's Prime Minister since 1981, Mahathir Mohammed has implemented

numerous policies and economic strategies that have benefited the Malaysian economy. Malaysia

transformed from a poor agricultural country to a very rich industrial modern country during his

reign, and he became known as Malaysia's "Father of Modernization." He achieved a lot on an

economic and political level in Malaysia, and he was also known for his harsh criticism of

Western anti-Islamic policies.

Background

Dr Mahathir Mohamad was born in Seberang Perak, Alor Setar, Kedah on December 20,

1925. (1). His father, Mohamad bin Iskandar, was half Indian, and his mother, Wan Tampawan,

was Malay. Mahathir began his career in small businesses because schools were closed during

the Japanese occupation of Malaya during World War II. He began by selling coffee and later

became a hawker of snacks, primarily pisang goring.

He began his education at a Malay vernacular school before transferring to Sultan Abdul Hamid

College in Alor Setar.He continued his studies and enrolled in the King Edward VII College of

Medicine in Singapore.

He graduated from medical school in 1954 and began his career as a doctor at Penang General

Hospital (2). In 1957, he opens his own clinic. He was elected to parliament as a member of the

United Malays National Organization in 1964. (UMNA).

Mahathir's Personality and Character.

Consider leadership. Mahathir Mohammed valued leadership and the satisfaction that

comes from a job well done. His ability to persuade was legendary among his friends and peers.

It also appears to have the characteristics of seriousness and purposefulness.

Strategic and Visionary Thinking Style

Mahathir Muhammad preferred to study law, but this did not happen because he received

a scholarship to study medicine, as previously stated. He preferred to study law because he

enjoys debating (3). However, his medical background aided him greatly in his work as a

politician. His approach to dealing with his country's problems was analogous to that of a doctor

and his patients.

Mahathir Mohammed's development strategy calls for the development of the entire

country, including remote areas. As part of the elaboration of Malaysia's economic vision for

20207, has taken care to build roads and bridges connecting the country's cities and villages.

to the advancement of the Malaysian economy, and as a result, he was able to usher the country

into the era of fast communication in the early 1980s.

Multi-talented individual

Mahathir Mohammed was a multi-talented, deep thinker. He was able to deal with a large

number of problems at once and decisively. He founded and edited a medical journal called 'The

Cauldron.' It also wrote a book called the Malay Dilemma before becoming Prime Minister,

which was banned until he became Prime Minister.

An Examination of Dr. Mahathir's Leadership.

It is obvious that Tun Dr Mahathir has a good leadership character, as his personality and

character have inspired people to achieve their goals. It may also touch on the impact of his

neighbouring countries, such as Indonesia, which is attempting to emulate Mahathir

decided to achieve certain objectives, but he also admits in his memoirs.

Dr. Mahathir's leadership flaws The biggest failure of his 20-year rule has been his

inability to instill a better work ethic among fellow ethnic Malay despite affirmative action

autocratic and democratic leadership styles depending on the situation, and he has demonstrated

that he has managed it accordingly as evidenced by his great achievements. There are many

positive aspects of Tun Dr Mahathir's personality and character that can be adapted to make him

a good leader. Tun Mahathir has demonstrated that in order to become a leader, one must first

have the desire to be a leader, and only then can he or she become a truly leader. He has also

demonstrated the importance of knowledge in becoming a successful leader.
