1. Why has Amazon.

com succeeded online when so many other companies have

failed?
- One key to Amazon.com’s success in all these differ- ent ventures was a
willingness to invest in the latest Internet technology to make shopping online
faster, eas- ier, and more personally rewarding for its customers and third-party
merchants.
- It powers and operates retail Web sites for Target, the NBA, Timex, and Marks
& Spencer. Amazon.com derives about 40 percent of its sales from its million-
plus affiliates called “Associates,” independent sellers or businesses that
receive commissions for refer- ring customers who then make a purchase at the
Amazon.com site.
- Amazon.com set out to create personalized store- fronts for each customer by
providing more useful infor- mation and more choices than could be found in
your typical neighborhood bookstore.
- Amazon.com’s one-click shopping lets buyers make purchases with one click
that consumers are more satisfied with simple and anyone can understand how
the website works.

2. Will the Kindle revolutionize the book industry? Why or why not?
Kindle. It means to set on fire, ignite or excite. And that seems to be Amazon’s plan
for the book industry with the creation of their Kindle. Kindle is an e-book reader
created by Amazon that debuted in Nov. 2007 that can deliver hundreds of thousands
of books, magazines, blogs, and newspapers wirelessly in a matter of seconds. As thin
as a magazine and light as a paperback. There have been mixed opinions about it, but
one thing is for sure: it is certainly changing the book industry. Since its creation in
2007, Kindle has done quite a lot to achieve that. Amazon has over 100,000 e-book
titles in fiction, nonfiction, fantasy and travel. Some publications have even come out
exclusively in the e-book form including biographies on the next possible first ladies
Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain. the device was Amazon.com’s number one
selling product in 2009. Amazon’s efforts to make the Kindle successful seem to have
paid off. It’s estimated that in the first eight months there were 240,000 devices sold.
In addition, the Kindle can help reduce textbook costs for college students. Right now
a college student can expect to pay anywhere from $200-$500 for textbooks for just
one semester. E-books are much cheaper. A bestseller on the Kindle Web site is $9.99
as opposed to the print list price of about $25. This means the cost of a $200 textbook
could be significantly lessened if published as an e-book instead of print.
To persuade consumers who are loyal to paper books. The Kindle has become
progressively lighter with successive generations, and even the device's materials are
softer than they used to be, more like a book in your hand than a high-tech gizmo. E
Ink tech is now nearly as high-res as printed words. Next up, flexibility seems at the
top of the Kindle team's minds.
There is promise and opportunity with this revolutionized book reading. The access
and convenience e-readers will provide benefit the book industry with this new
technology. It will allow for cheaper prices and technology. Technology is changing
rapidly. It will be interesting to see what time will do for the book industry and its
newest creation.
3. What’s next for Amazon.com? Is cloud computing the right direction for the
company? Where else can it grow?
- For Amazon, The company continues to invest in technology, is focused on the
long-term, and has suc- cessfully positioned itself as a technology company
with its wide range of Amazon Web Services. Moreover, What Amazon.com
can do now is creating a discount or incentive for people who shop on their
website. For example if a customer spend $100 in a month then they can
receive free shipping for next month
- I believe that cloud is computing at the right direction for the company because
Amazon is day by day becoming the cloud giant as the AWS business alone is
worth $ 7.3 billion, and the number of corporate customers has reached 1
million. And the enterprise database service alone made $ 1 billion in
revenue.enue.
- Amazon can enter into online entertainment and communication.
- It can develop software for international calling at cheaper rates.
