RULES:
1. Present tense changes to past tense.
Harry said, “He writes a letter.”
Harry said that he wrote a letter.
2. Present continuous changes to past continuous.
She said, “I am washing my clothes.”
She said that she was washing her clothes.
3. Present perfect changes to past perfect.
Ria said, “I have done the work.”
Ria said that she had done the work.
4. Present perfect continuous changes to past perfect continuous.
She said, “It has been raining for three days.”
She said that it had been raining for three days.
5. Past tense changes to past perfect.
He said, “They went to cinema.”
He said that they had gone to the cinema.
6. Past Continuous changes to past perfect continuous.
He said, “He was enjoying the weather.”
He said that he had been enjoying the weather.
7. Past perfect remains the same.
She said, “I had filled the form.” – She said that she had filled the form.
8.Future – ‘will’ changes to ‘would’
I said, “I will not write the exam.” – I said that I would not write the
exam.
Change of expressions:
