Introduction
Teaching can be defined as engagement with learners to enable their understanding and
thus, teaching consists of getting students involved in the active construction of knowledge.
Technology infuses classrooms with digital learning tools, such as computers and handheld
devices; expands course offerings, experiences, and learning materials; supports learning 24
hours a day, 7 days a week; builds 21st century skills; increases student engagement and
motivation; and accelerates learning. Technology also has the power to transform teaching by
ushering in a new model of connected teaching. This model links teachers to their students and
to professional content, resources, and systems to help them improve their own instruction and
personalize learning.
In Trinidad and Tobago there is a minimal incorporation of technology in classrooms over the
years but with the start of online schooling can this incorporation continue for the betterment
Are educators continuing the use of technology in their classrooms after online schooling to
enhance their teachings and what are the impacts of this on their students?
Are teachers implementing technology into their teachings and is this impacting their
performance of students?
Reasons for Selecting This Area of Research
The researcher has an interest in technology and its impact on the educational system.
Technology can be integrated into all aspects of education as its social broadband is extensive
As might be expected, the researcher is of the opinion that technology should be integrated
into teaching and learning in today’s classrooms and curriculums as it can steer students on
their own part to personalized thinking and learning. As a student of Holy Faith Convent Couva,
I greatly appreciate the implementation of technology that some teachers add to their lesson
and the resources provided after the further our own interest. The article from TeachHUB.COM
entitled ‘Benefits of Technology in the Classroom’ seems to share the same views as they state:
The impact that technology has had on today’s schools has been quite significant. This
widespread adoption of technology has completely changed how teachers teach and students
learn. Teachers are learning how to teach with emerging technologies while students are using
advanced technology to shape how they learn. By embracing and integrating technology in the
classroom, we are setting our students up for a successful life outside of school.
My interest was further piqued as Dr. Didicus Jules, Director General of the Organization of
Eastern Caribbean Studies as he was quoted in an article by ICTPulse entitled ‘Are we truly using
the “chalk and talk” mode of teaching is dead, and it is time teachers’ start using the tools
The research is interested in finding out if teachers implementing technology into their
teachings and is this impacting their student positively or negatively? Furthermore, are students
in favor of the incorporation of technology into their learning? How has the introduction of
