"The Philippines' Baby Factory"

The RH law is beneficial to us Filipinos in so many ways. There is a need
for widespread information and dissemination of various family planning methods.
Sex education is the most effective technique to educate and support young
people about sex. The majority of Filipinos are underprivileged and have little or
no education. Parents should educate their children about the consequences of
teen pregnancy and early marriage. People will be able to make wise decisions for
their own benefit if they are well educated. In the process, they would be
empowered. With this, sex education is the most effective technique to educate
and support Filipino youths on safe sex. However, the majority of Filipinos are
underprivileged and have little or no education, thus, this is a challenging feat. On
the other hand, even if most Filipinos do have access to education, it would still be
moot because sex education is not yet included in the general education program,
resulting to the lack of knowledge and awareness on safe sex at an appropriate
age and development. That is why the general Filipino society and the government
should go hand in hand in addressing this timely issue to prevent it from becoming
even more drastic.
I am against the church in their decision to be against the RH law. The
Church is not willing to sacrifice morality and its bedrock teachings for short-term
economic progress or for ease of living. Our country needs this as we are one of
the most populated countries in the world and a lot of these births are due to lack
of knowledge. The reform is needed not only because the Philippines has one of
the world’s fastest population growth rates but also because survey after survey
has shown that Filipinos themselves want such a law. I think it is important that
sex education is properly taught or discussed to adolescents because these age
groups are the ones that are being affected by teenage pregnancy, they have the
right to know what are the consequences of their actions and help prevent
potential unwanted pregnancies in the future. Parents can also help educate their
children about the consequences of teen pregnancy and early marriage. It would
also be helpful if the existing policies and programs on sex education and safe sex
awareness will be executed efficiently, assessed for more improvements, and be
accessible for all Filipinos.
