integrity under fire condition – Category CWZ.
3.0 CABLE CONSTRUCTION

3.1 Conductor

Plain annealed stranded circular (Sizes ≤ 6 mm2) or circular compacted (Sizes ≥

10 mm2) copper conductors. All conductors are in accordance with IEC 60228
Class-2.

3.2 Mica Glass Tape

Mica Glass Tape applied over the conductor with suitable overlap.

3.3 Insulation

Cross-linked polyethylene [ XLPE ] rated 90 ºC at normal operation and 250 ºC

at time of short circuit. The insulation is complying with requirements specified in
section 6 of IEC 60502-1.

3.4 Bedding
The bedding will consist of a layer of extruded LSHF compound compatible with
the maximum operating temperature of the conductor.

3.5 Armoring

The metallic armour will consist of a single layer of Aluminum wires applied
concentrically over the bedding.

3.6 Outer sheath

An extruded layer of Black coloured LSHF compound to IEC 60502-1.which is

compatible with the maximum operating temperature of the conductor.

3.7 Core identification

1 Core : Red.

4.0 MARKING ON SHEATH

The LSHF outer sheath for all cables will be marked at intervals not exceeding one meter
with the following information :
a. The manufacturer name.
b. Voltage designation.
c. Type of insulation.
d. Conductor size and material.
e. Year of manufacture.
f. Meter marking.
Marking Text Example :

alfanar 1 X 630 MM2 0.6/1 KV ELECTRIC CABLE CU / MICA / XLPE / AWA / LSHF Manufacturing
Year KSA

5.0 PACKING

The cables will be supplied in non-returnable wooden or steel reels up to the

manufacturer discretion. Both ends of the cable will be sealed to prevent the ingress of
moisture during transportation and storage. Cable ends will be firmly and properly
secured to the reel.

Each reel will be marked with the following information, which will be written on a tag
nailed to the flange.

- Type of cable.
- Voltage rating.
- Size of conductor.
- Shipping cable length.
- Net weight and gross weight.
- Drum number.
- Manufacturer name and location.
- Customer name and location.
- Purchase order no.
- alfanar item code.

Direction of rolling will be clearly painted on the flange of each reel.

6.0 TESTING

- Routine tests will be carried out in accordance with the relevant clauses of IEC
60502-1.
- Flame propagation test will be carried out in accordance with the relevant clauses of
IEC 60332-3-24.
- Acid gas emission tests will be carried out in accordance with the relevant clauses of
IEC 60754-1 and IEC 60754-2.
- Smoke emission tests will be carried out in accordance with the relevant clauses of
IEC 61034.
- Fire resistance tests will be carried out in accordance with the relevant clauses of BS
6387 Category CWZ.
