GUILTY
• He was guilty of because of his
writings specifically noli me tangere
and el filibusterismo where these two
novels awaken the nationalism of the
Filipinos the Spaniards were so
triggered by it and accused Rizal
rebellion
• He angered the church and we all
know the church friars were so
powerful back then they didn’t like
Rizal exposing their dirty deeds to
the public.
• He was found guilty because of the
documents and testimonials
presented as evidence against him.
• He was found guilty because he
founded a movement group against
the Spaniards
• The Spaniards accused that the one
speech he gave at the house of
ongjungco was the one that inspired
the revolution in the Philippines
NOT GUILTY
• He was not guilty because the trial that
happened is biased.
• He was accused guilty even before the
trial happened
• If he were guilty, he could have escaped
in Singapore. he could have escaped in a
Moro vinta and would not have built a
home, a hospital, and bought lands in
Dapitan.
• He was not guilty because all what he
did was right to fight and free the
country.
• It was true he wrote the by-laws of the
Liga-Filipina, but this is only a civic
association – not a revolutionary
society. The Liga Filipina did not live
long, for after the first meeting he was
banished to Dapitan and it died out. If
the Liga was reorganized nine months
later, he did not know about it.
• It was not true that the revolution was
inspired by his one speech at the house
of Doroteo Ongjunco, as alleged by
witnesses whom he would like to
confront. His friends knew his
opposition to armed rebellion.
