    Mrs. Diana, a 40-year-old alcoholic and smoker, visited the doctor because she felt her face looked older than her friend of the same age. The doctor diagnosed her as experiencing premature aging and explained that cigarette smoke and alcohol are oxidants that can damage cells. Cigarette smoke contains many free radicals that cause cellular and tissue damage including to the skin. Increased oxidants may lead to oxidative stress and cause premature aging and diseases. The doctor advised Mrs. Diana to eat more fruits and vegetables, which contain antioxidants that can prevent oxidative stress and help repair damaged cells and tissues. However, antioxidants should not be taken in excess as supplements because they can become pro-oxidants.

    AGING CORRELLATES WITH OXIDANTS AND ANTIOXIDANTS
    First Session

    CASE TITLE: Mrs.Diana

    Mrs. Diana, 40 years old, came to the clinic for a consultation. She felt her face
    looked older than her friend of the same age. She was an alcoholic and smoker. She did not like
    fruits and vegetables.
    The doctor diagnosed that Mrs. Diana experienced a premature aging process and
    explained that cigarette smoke and alcohol are oxidants that can damage cells. The cigarette
    smoke contained many oxidants in the form of free radicals, causing cellular / tissue
    damage, including to the skin. The increase of oxidants may lead to oxidative stress and cause
    premature aging and several diseases, including aging, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.
    The doctor reminded Mrs. Diana to have a healthy diet because fruits and vegetables
    contain antioxidants that can prevent oxidative stress and help the recovery of the damaged
    cellular/tissue. The doctor also explained that she should not use antioxidants supplements
    excessively because they can become pro-oxidants.
