CONTENTS OF AN ARCHITECTURAL WORKING/PRODUCTION DRAWING:

WINDOWS AND DOORS SCHEDULE

There are huge amounts of information in a design that might not to be able to be accommodated

in the actual drawings and these information are needed for other professionals involved in the

building project. Therefore, such information is best illustrated through documents in the form of

specification drawings and schedules.

A schedule is a document used to effectively organize information in a tabular form of rows and

columns. Schedules helps to deliver deep information that can be otherwise shown in a working

drawing but not as deep as shown in a specification drawing. Schedules vary amongst several

design firms but conventional schedules are drawn in grid lines with a required spacing of 5mm to

6mm and a lettering height of either 2.5 or 3mm for adequate readability. Common types of

schedules include door schedule, window schedule, finish schedule.

DOOR SCHEDULE

Although doors have other notations assigned to them on a floor plan, they are further referenced

to a door schedule to provide more detailed information about each door found in the plan. We

have basically two sections in a door schedule which is the tabular form and the graphical aspect.

For instance, in a small project, the various types of doors on the floor plan are assigned a number

not with door numbers defined by the room numbers.

A typical residential door schedule contains the: mark, number (quantity), size (nominal), type of

door type, finish, remarks. This information is then followed by a graphical illustration of the type

of doors (elevations) usually in a scale of 1:50 and may also include dimensions

A more comprehensive door schedule may include the door frame material, finish and remark

alongside other data listed above. For a large or commercial project, door numbers are specified

by room numbers and more schedule information are necessary such as door type number, opening

size, door type, frame material, finish, hardware, fire rating and remarks.

A commercial door schedule also contains notations for general notes, each door type and finish,

frame type, hardware, detail drawings for different door types or frame constructions.

Abbreviations should be implemented in a schedule in some cases such as MT’L(Metal),

WD(Wood) etc.

WINDOW SCHEDULE

Window schedules applies the same format as a door schedule in terns of the organization and the

layout. Also, windows are also labelled on the floor plan to distinguish them and are referenced to

a schedule in order to provide more information about each window. Like door schedules, window

schedules also consist of two parts; the tabular form and the graphic illustration. The items in a

typical window schedule includes: the mark, number(quantity), unit size, opening size, material

finish, glazing type and remarks
