CH Day 1

OBJECTIVES:

• This year we will try to understand again the


• teachings of G7, G8, and G9.
• How it inspires our actions and our choices?
• Doing good and right, and avoiding bad and what is wrong.
• Living the faith out!
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS

• How is Christian Morality related to my previous lessons on the Old and New
Testaments?
• What are the foundations and values of Christian Morality and how can I apply it in my
life?
• How does my Christian faith understand our own humanity?
LEARNING COMPETENCIES

• The student is able to understand the moral demands from the stories of the Old and
New Testaments.
• The student is able to appreciate the foundations, application, and values of Christian
Morality.
• The student is able to analyze and understand the Christian understanding of what it
means to be a human being.
TOPICS:
• We will be talking about the following:

✓ The Old and the New Testaments

✓ The essence of the Human Being using reason and faith.

PERFORMANCE TASKS

• You will be making an infographic that shows which aspects of the human being are
most affected by disasters (AP) and the vaccination rollout? Why?
• How can we ensure that these aspects of the human being are protected and
respected? This is also your Exit Product for CH, which is 20% of your grade while your
PT is 10%
OUR CLASSES

• Synchronous Class will be from 11am-12nn (quiz, recitation, and discussions)


• Asynchronous Class will be posted during synchronous session.
• Deadline for asynchronous activities is 10:00am the next day.
• Keep copies of Scaffoldings
• A day's worth of missed activities will merit a parent call from me.
• After a warning of non-submission, a zero grade will be given. Plagiarism will merit a
zero grade, failing effort and conduct, and will be reported to the PS

• I encourage everyone to open your camera during synchronous classes
• Recite as much as you can!

LESSON 1A
FRIENDSHIPS
• Friendship is the summary of the whole scripture.
• It is God inviting us in a relationship.
• Just like any relationship we know and are known.

DIVINE REVELATION
• The self-revelation or pagpapakilala ng Diyos sa atin.
• We know God, we are known, and we also know the things around US.
• Lights and Shadows (know about good things about us and the bad things about us as
well)
• God is introducing to us.
• Just like friendship.

HOW WAS IT REVEALED?


• We do not meet God directly, except for one special event.
• God's revelation passes through "instruments" that will help us get to know him.
• Ways of God’s Revelation.

HOLY SCRIPTURES
• Scriptures are sacred books and texts recognized as inspired by the Spirit of God.
• Written by both man and God
• The bible is a collection of books of different genres. (The bible is a collection of books)
• There are a lot and different authors writing the Holy Scriptures.
• Jewish Bible in Hebrew it is call Tanak.
• The “T” stands for Torah which is the Law. The Foundation story, which is the Genesis,
Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy.
• The “N” stands for Nevi’im which is the Prophets. The historical books which tell the
story of the prophets’ point of view (Joshua, Samuel, Kings, Isaiah, etc.)
• The “K” stands for Ketuvim which is the writings. (Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Ruth,
Chronicles, etc.)
• Other Jewish writing as well (Maccabees, Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, Sirach, etc.)
• They put it all together which tells God’s greatest stories from start to end.
• The apostles write the story of Jesus which is the Gospel. The acts the spread or the
works of Jesus outside Israel.
• They also thought that God is speaking through their writings.
• Tank (Hebrew), Other Second Temple Writings (Greek), New Testament (Greek)

SACRED TRADITION
• The "lived-out" transmission of the gospel, and not only written.
• Those who know God has developed a lifestyle that reveals the faith.
• Many things are not included in Scripture.
• Not on the bible but it is passed to other generations like the Holy Rosary, Eucharist,
Giving flowers to God.
• Sacred Scripture faith written in a piece of paper.
• Faith lived out forming a different kind of lifestyle if individual people and then passing
on to them.

TEACHINGS OF THE CHURCH


• Scriptures are written by a community of people, interpreted by a community of people.
• The Church reveals to us the meaning and application of our faith.
• Help us understand the old tradition
• It is Ancient
• Behaving

HIMSELF
• We get to know God himself: the Holy Trinity.
• That God is good, all present, all-loving, all powerful.
• The God is love, not just loving.
• He shared this love.

HIS LOVE
• God has revealed his love he showed it.
• What are ways that he showed his love:

✓ Guidance
✓ Mission
HIS PLAN
• God also has a plan for us, he wanted us to be SOMEONE and to be a SOCIETY. The
Kingdom of God
• God wants us to be a kind of person who is loving, who is good
• A person whose choices and life reveals his friendship with God
• A society that shows a relationship with God.
• We form a society founded on justice and we call this society a Kingdom of God (our
world- according to bro. Bien)

LESSON 1B

• Sacred Scripture is the revelation of God


• Sacred scripture, tradition and church teaching are God revealing himself to us
• we cannot know who God is but we know who he is aspects or dimensions of who he
is and we get to know his love and his self-giving gift his ways of guiding us
• even correcting us and we also know that
• God is giving to us a mission for us to change our lives and also to change our
society, basically his plans

SACRED STORY

• Sacred Scripture or the Holy Bible is not a single book, but a (collection of books)
library of many books
✓ History (things that happened)
✓ Myths (things that are symbolic stories, narratives that are symbolic) ex. the
story of adam and eve
✓ Poetry (the psalms) we have rules prescriptions
✓ Laws
✓ Stories (parables that we know Jesus used in the new testament)
• The Holy Bible is composed of:
✓ Old Testament (46 books) - Torah, Prophets, and Writings
✓ New Testament (27 books)- Gospel, Acts of the apostles, Writings, and
Revelation
THE OLD TESTAMENT

• The study of Old Testament is called Salvation history


• A promised made by God to the people of Israel
• God promised that he will save them and continue to prepare them for the coming of a
new Messiah (new king)
• Story of how God freed a tiny group of people from slavery, and promised them, make
them a blessing to the whole world (becoming something great to the whole world)
• Stories of sin and forgiveness, and hope
• Torah - collection of books of the law or the first five books of the bible

- Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, and the book of numbers


- the prophets on the other hand are writings about certain individuals who reveal to
us god's plan such as Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Elijah
- Historical Books: King David, King Saul, King Solomon
- Poetry: Psalms, the song of Solomon, and the book of wisdom, the book of
Ecclesiastes

THE NEW TESTAMENT

• The fulfillment of the promise that was made


• Jesus Christ and the growth of his Church.
• Missioning to the World to bring them to the flock of God.
• A call to communion.
• Gathering of people
• Gospels – Four of Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John)
• The acts of the apostles – talks about of the growth of Christian community
• The exchanges of letters between the Christian community
• Book of revelation

STORY OF A BIBLE

• God created the bible or the author of the story


• The bible is about the family of Abraham

A THEME OF SCRIPTURE

• Revelation took thousands of years! From old to new testaments


• It continues until now!
• It shows to us the promise of God made and promise of God fulfilled
• The promise continues
• Theme 1: God is revealing himself to us. (God showing us who he is)
• Theme 2: God is calling us to a personal and communal conversion that will reflect that
we are his adopted children.
• Conversion – our own change of life
• It's a call to a relationship; just like any relationship it requires knowing and doing.
• This challenge is an invitation for us to live out the message of Jesus to live out the
messages of god

RESPONDING

• We are invited to respond to God


• The Church, inspired by the Holy Spirit guides us to respond to the call to
conversion.
• Because of the message we are invited to change our life, change the way we make
decisions
• Conversion means a change of decisions, lifestyles, and choices for God.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?

• This is the central question of our year in CH.


• How do I embody the invitation of God to a change of life?
• How am I to behave and choose as a child of God?

Remember:

- Scripture has a lot of characters; Moses, Abraham, Peter, Paul, Mary, john the
Baptist, and Jeremiah (these stories in the scripture are there to inspire you to
become better individuals
