Literally translated, 'chakra' means 'wheel' or 'disk.' The earliest record of chakras are from 1500
to 500 BCE, in a Hindu text called the Vedas.
Chakras are thought to control and maintain the body's many physical, emotional, and spiritual
functions.
Root Chakra
The root chakra is the first chakra. The root chakra is based in the earth element. It’s associated
with safety and grounding. The root chakra is often referred to as the base of the chakra system.
The root chakra is associated with the following behaviors and functions:
● Security, safety
● Survival
● Basic needs (food, sleep, shelter, self-preservation, etc.)
● Physicality, physical identity and aspects of self
● Grounding
● Support and foundation for living our lives
● Garnet, red jasper, black tourmaline, and bloodstone (red and black)
● Exercise
● Better nutrition
● Grounding using the earth element
● Positive affirmations about safety
● Healing from past insecurities (perhaps through shadow work)

Sacral Chakra
The sacral chakra is the second chakra. It is associated with the emotional body, sensuality, and
creativity. It is connected to the element of water.
The sacral chakra is associated with the following behaviors and functions:
● Emotions
● Relationships
● Sexuality and pleasure
● Creativity
The solar plexus chakra is associated with the following behaviors and functions:
● Power
● Confidence
● Responsibility
● Reliability
● Self-esteem
● Self-discipline
● Willpower
● Self-acceptance
● Little or no confidence
● Lack of self-trust
● Unreliable
● Unable to handle responsibility
● Self-centered
● Conceited
● Narrow-minded
● Power hungry
Heart Chakra
The heart chakra is the fourth chakra. It is associated with compassion, affection, and love. It is
connected to the element of air.
The heart chakra is associated with the following behaviors and functions:
● Shyness
● Loneliness
● Lack of forgiveness or empathy
● Jealousy
● Dependence on others
● Needing outward validation
● Being harshly critical of others
Throat Chakra
The throat chakra is the fifth chakra. It is associated with expression and communication. It is
connected to the element of ether, or spirit.
