003-009 Rocker Lever Assembly

Preparatory Steps

Remove the coil-on plug. Refer to

Procedure 013-024 in Section 13.

Remove the rocker lever cover. Refer to
Procedure 003-011 in Section 3.

Remove

NOTE: Do not allow the rocker levers to

fall off the shaft during removal.

Loosen the lock nut and back out the

adjusting screw on the rocker levers.

Remove the two rocker lever assembly

mounting capscrews.

Remove the rocker lever assemblies.

Inspect for Reuse

Remove the mounting capscrews from the

rocker lever shaft.

Pull the shaft out of the rocker levers.

Inspect the shaft for damage or

roughness.

Measure the outer diameter of the rocker

lever shaft.

Inspect the socket for wear on the valve

sockets.

Inspect the crosshead pad for wear.

NOTE: If there is damage that can be

felt with the fingernail, the parts should
be replaced.

Inspect the bushing for wear.

Measure the inner diameter of the

bushing.

NOTE: This specification applies to all

rocker levers.

Lubricate the rocker lever shaft with clean

engine oil.

NOTE: The oil drilling in the shaft must

be in alignment with the oil drilling in
the levers.

Slide the levers on the shaft in the

sequence shown:

1. Exhaust lever
2. Spacer
3. Intake lever.

Lubricate threads, rocker sockets, and

crosshead pads with clean engine oil.

Install the capscrews.

Install

NOTE: Make sure the ring dowel that

aligns the rocker shaft is installed in
the housing.

NOTE: Make sure the adjusting screws

are loose.

Position the rocker lever assembly on the

housing. Install the capscrews and finger-
tighten two or three revolutions.

Align the pushrod sockets with the

adjusting screws.

Tighten the capscrews.

Torque Value: 280 n.m [207 ft-lb]

Finishing Steps

Adjust the valves. Refer to Procedure

003-006 in Section 3.

Install the rocker lever cover. Refer to
Procedure 003-011 in Section 3.

Install the coil-on plug. Refer to
Procedure 013-024 in Section 3.
