Fusion 360 Mastery

Lesson: CAM model prep

In this lesson, you will create a circular pattern, measure geometry and add a comment.

Learning Objectives:
 Create a circular pattern.
 Measure geometry.
 Add a comment.
Step 1: Create a circular pattern, measure geometry and add a comment
1. Create a Machinist folder inside of Tier
3 and then upload the file FSAE
Upright.f3d and open it.

2. Select all the features in the timeline,

rigth click and Create Group.

3. Start a new sketch on the brake rotor side

face of the Upright and create a 5mm
circle that is 65mm vertically above the
origin.

Note: The origin of the file isn’t concentric with

the circular section of the Upright but we are still
using it as a reference.

4. Create an Extrude cut of the
circle 15mm into the Upright.

5. Select Create > Pattern

> Circular Pattern.

6. Set the Pattern Type to Features

and select the extrude feature from
the timeline. Set the Axis to one of
the circular edges inside the Upright.

7. Set the Quantity to 6 and OK.

8. Select Inspect.

9. Measure the distance between the
upper balljoint area and the
structural rib base.

Note: We are measuring areas to figure

out how large of a tool we can use to rough
and finish.

10. Expand the Comments and

add a comment 10mm, click
the camera icon and Post
the comment with the
image.

Note: Comments can be added or

viewed in any workspace and on the
web in Fusion Team so adding
comments about tool sizes can be
handy during programming.

11. Measure other areas of the

design and add notes about
the size endmill that can fit
in that area.

Note: If you skipped the Engineer

section we designed the upright with
5mm internal fillets on all pockets. I
place a note of 8mm endmill so we
don’t get chatter when doing a finish
cut on pockets.
12. Measure drill holes and
machine tool restrictions
with comments and pictures
then save the file.
