1. MOUNTING OF DISPLAY UNIT

1.1 Mounting Considerations

The display unit is designed to be mounted on a tabletop. When selecting a mounting location,
keep in mind the following points.

• Locate the unit out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources because of heat that can
build up inside the cabinet.

• Leave sufficient space at sides and rear of the unit for servicing ease. See the outline
drawing for recommended service space.

• Locate the equipment away from places subject to water splash and rain.
• Be sure the mounting location is strong enough to support the weight of the unit under the
continued vibration which is normally experienced on the ship. If necessary, reinforce the
mounting location.

• Keep the unit away electromagnetic field-generating equipment such as motor, generator.
• The temperature and humidity of the location should be moderate and stable.

1.2 Mounting Procedure

Mount the display unit as shown in below. See the outline drawing at the back of this manual for
dimensions.
1. Remove two bolts from the front panel to dismount the mounting base from the display unit.
2. Fasten the mounting base to the tabletop with four M10 bolts or φ 9 coach screws.
3. Mount the display unit on the mounting base, and then fasten two bolts at the front panel to
fix them.

2. MOUNTING OF ANTENNA UNIT
(GP-380 only)

2.1 Mounting Considerations

Install the antenna unit referring to the installation diagram at the end of this manual.

When selecting a mounting location for the antenna unit, keep in mind the following points:

• Select a location out of the radar beam. The radar beam will obstruct or prevent reception of
the GPS satellite signal.

• The location should be well away from a VHF/UHF antenna. A GPS receiver is interfered by
a harmonic wave of a VHF/UHF antenna.

• There should be no interfering object within the line-of-sight to the satellites. Objects within
line-of-sight to a satellite, for example, a mast, may block reception or prolong acquisition
time.

• Mount the antenna unit as high as possible. Mounting the antenna unit as high as possible
keeps it free of interfering objects and water spray, which can interrupt reception of GPS
satellite signal if the water freezes.

Note: GPS antenna unit GPA-018S should be grounded with a 1.25 sq. wire.

2
2.2 Fabrication of Antenna Cable
For extension, optional 30 m cable (CP20-01700) and 50 m cable (CP20-01710) are available.

Timing Adjustment:

Sweep timing differs with respect to the length of the signal cable between the antenna unit and
the display unit. Adjust sweep timing at installation to prevent the following symptoms:

• The echo of a "straight" target (for example, pier), on the 0.25 nm range, will appear on the
display as being pulled inward or pushed outward. See the figure in below.

• The range of target echoes will also be incorrectly shown.

(1) Correct (2) Target (3) Target

1. Select "Timing Adjust", and press the [→] key.

2. Transmit on the 0.25 nm range.
3. Select a target echo which should be displayed straightly, for example, a pier.
4. Adjust the VRM control to straighten the target echo.
5. Press the [ENT] key.

Video Adjustment

When the signal cable is very long, the video signal input level decreases, shrinking target
echoes. Before adjusting the video, set the main radar and the GD/GP380 display unit to
maximum range and set the MBS of the main radar to "0."

To execute the video adjustment, select “Video Level Adjust” and press the [→] key to select
