scale.
This is a tectosilicate stone , a
quartzite ( rock) .The green
colouring is from its Fuschite
Mica content.It is an opaque
hard stone ( 7 on the scale )

This is a Copper Carbonate
mineral with a vibrant green
colouring when polished. It is at
3.5 -4 on the Mohs scale. Very
slightly soluble in water with
CO2 content
Malachite
A quartz crystal, Citrine is
translucent to slightly opaque
and is an orangey – yellow
colour, cut with clear in the raw
form of the stone. It occurs
when amethyst is heated
( natural citrine is not common,
occurring mainly deep in the
earth nearer hotter strata).
Ametrine is a “half and half”
Citrine
version of amethyst/ citrine.

Copper content is said to help
with rheumatism and arthritic

Amber This is a fossil resin, not a stone.
It comprises mainly Carbon,
Oxygen and Hydrogen with
some Sulphur often found, but
often contains inclusions, or
flora or fauna matter,caught
within the liquid resin which
then solidifies and fossilises. It
has a Mohs scale rating of 1.5-
2.5. Its colour varies; most
commonly it is a translucent
orange/rust colour.
Tiger’s Eye A browny/ rust / yellow banded
stone with a lustre ( a
“chatoyance”, describing the
almost luminescent quality of
the sheen), Tiger’s Eye is a
quartz (SiO2) containing
crocidolite . A hard stone, it
scores 7 on the Mohs scale.
Orange Calcite An orange-coloured
carbonate,Calcite has a high
Calcium content. It is a soft
stone,(2.5-3 on the scale) easily
scratched and feels almost waxy
to the touch.

carnelian is an orangey-red or
reddish-brown colour and
natural carnelian is usually
cloudy/ opaque.The colour
comes from Iron Oxide (
haematite) impurities in the
quartz. 7 on the Mohs scale.
Carnelian
Bloodstone (or Heliotrope) A dark green chalcedony or
quartz group stone with red
spots formed from iron, or
Jasper. It has a hardness of 7.
Moonstone Potassium Aluminium Silicate.
Moonstone is a feldspar stone
which occurs in various colours -
white, grey to dark grey ,
brownish or pinkish, and has a
“schiller” or sheen due to its
construction. It is formed in
layers which reflect and refract
light. The most prized for
jewellery are stones with a
blueish schiller.

Fluorite Fluorite is a Calcium Fluoride
stone, transparent to
translucent. It comes in a rich
variety of colours and is second
only to quartz in its range of
hues. It ranges from purples/
violets through blue/green and
turquoise to green and yellow
and the less common pinks to
browns ( sometimes all in the
same crystal!)It’s a 4 on the
Mohs scale.
Similar to the Feldspar group of
crystals but containing less
Silica, Sodalite is termed a
“Feldspathoid” stone. It
comprises Sodium and
Aluminium as well as Silica.It’s a
6 in hardness. Normally a deep
blue , (and a component of its
Sodalite sister stone, Lapis Lazuli), it also
is found in other colours.

grey or reddish , with a metallic
lustre or sheen. It’s an Iron
