OVERVIEW
It is not surprising that in a developing country, there are many self-employed people
because they start with some income-generating project to survive. Even employed people
start and continually engage in “sideline or “rackets” as most Filipino calls it.
Putting up a food business venture is challenging, but enjoyable and rewarding.
However, before embarking on food business, one should be equipped with the essential
traits and competencies of a successful food entrepreneur in order for him/her to overcome
the challenges he/she is likely to encounter.
As you go through this module, you will get to know the following:

PEC refers to the desired traits that enable an entrepreneur to do what is expected of him and succeed
in business. It is the combination of these characteristics which is required to perform effectively as an
entrepreneur.

1. Through this questionnaire, you will identify your own PEC characteristics that may help you to understand
the importance of a business.
1. The questionnaire is consisting 55 brief statements which correspond to a people’s characteristics. Read
each statement and rate yourself to what extent the statements describe you. Be true to yourself in answering.
2. Select one of the numbers below to describe your answer:

Choose a food entrepreneur / businessman / successful individual, local or foreign whose success
story has inspired you. Identify his or her entrepreneurial competencies which you think contributed to his/her
success. Give Justification for your analysis by pasting picture of the selected entrepreneur and his/her
success. After analyzing at chosen entrepreneurs PECs, look at your PECs and recommend some strategies for
improving your weakness and strength based on the success of your chosen entrepreneur. The task maybe
accomplish either by making a research or conducting an interview.
