INVITATION TO APPLY FOR POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES FOR THE


2021/2022 ACADEMIC YEAR
Introduction
The State University of Zanzibar invites all applicants aspiring to pursue various postgraduate degree
programmes for the 2021/2022 academic year which commences in November, 2021.

Mode of application
1. Applicants should apply directly to the State University of Zanzibar through the OSIM system Online available
at https://suza.osim.ac.tz. The application window will be closed by 30th August, 2021.
2. Successful applicants will be notified of their application status a month after logging in the SUZA OSIM system
Online application.
Admissionrequirements

SN PROGRAMMES ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS


1. Master of Science in Climate Relevant bachelor degree or an equivalent degree from other recognized
Change and Natural Resources universities covering any of the following natural science subjects:
Management Chemistry, Biology, Geography and any other relevant environmental
related disciplines with at least a GPA of 2.8 or its equivalent from
approved Higher Learning Institutions.
2. Master of Science in Chemistry Relevant bachelor degree or an equivalent degree from recognized
universities majored in Chemistry and any other relevant related
disciplines with at least a GPA of 2.8 or its equivalent from approved
Higher Learning Institutions.
3. Master of Science in Relevant bachelor degree or an equivalent degree from recognized
Environmental Science Universities covering any of subjects of Natural resources, Chemistry,
Biology, Geography and any other environmental related disciplines with
at least a GPA of 2.8 or its equivalent from approved Higher Learning
Institutions.
4. Master of Science in Not below the Second-Class degree or an equivalent degree from a
Information Technology recognized institution. Candidates who hold an unclassified degree should
have at least a B grade average in the subject of the intended Masters
specialized study.
Bachelor degree at lower second class with honours level where Computer
Science, Information Technology, Geographical Information System and
Remote Sensing skills taken as a major or minor option or has a
postgraduate diploma in Information Technology or related fields OR
Candidates with Pass degrees may also be considered for admission if:
• Their undergraduate performance in the proposed subject of study was
a B grade or higher.
• They have satisfied the relevant College/School/Institute regarding
their academic potential through subsequent research experience and/or
additional training.

NB: Preference will be given to such students with Computer Science,
Information Technology and other related fields.

5. Master of Education in At least an Upper Second Class degree with Kiswahili language
Teaching Kiswahili to specialisation or an equivalent Bachelor degree from any recognized
Speakers of Others Languages institution of higher learning. Or Candidates who hold an unclassified
degree should have at least a B+ grade average in the subject of the
intended Masters.
Or Pass degrees with undergraduate performance in the proposed subject
of study was a B grade or higher.
6. Masters of Education in Youth, A candidate for admission into this Masters degree programme shall hold the
Gender and Development following qualifications:
At least a Second-Class degree or an equivalent degree from a recognized
institution of higher learning. Candidates who hold unclassified degrees
should have at least a B grade average in the subject of the intended Masters
study.
Or
Candidates with Bachelor degree at lower second-class honours level where
education was taken as a major or minor option or has a postgraduate
diploma in education.
Or
Candidates with pass degrees may also be considered for admission if:
Their undergraduate performance in the proposed subject of study was a B
grade or higher;
They have satisfied the relevant College/School/Institute regarding their
academic potential through subsequent research experience and/or additional
training.
NB: Preference will be given to such students with education, youth and
gender specializations background.

7. Master of Education in A candidate for admission into this Master degree programme of the State
Language Education and University of Zanzibar shall hold the following qualifications:
Development (M.Ed. LED)
Degree Programs a) A Bachelor’s degree in Language with Education background from
the State University of Zanzibar or any other recognised higher
learning institution;
b) A minimum GPA of 2.7; and
c) A minimum pass of B grade in language subjects at undergraduate
level.
8. Masters of Arts in Kiswahili Mwombaji awe na Shahada ya Kwanza ya Kiswahili au Shahada ya
kwanza ya Sanaa na Ualimu au Tafsiri na Ukalimani au Shahada ya
Kwanza ya Sanaa ambayo inahusisha Kiswahili kama somo kuu yenye
WAKIA (Wastani wa Kiwango cha Alama) (GPA) ya kuanzia 3.0.
9. Doctor of Philosophy in Mwombaji awe na Shahadaya pili ya Kiswahili au Shahada ya Pili ya
Kiswahili Lughawiya au Shahada ya Pili ya Fasihi yenye WAKIA (Wastani wa
Kiwango cha Alama) ya kuanzia 3.0.

Application fee
The application fees of 30,000/- for Tanzanians and US $ 30 for foreign applicants. The fee is non-refundable.

EXTENSION FEE
The candidate who cannot complete studies during the normal duration of registration will be
required to pay an extension fee of TZS 50,000/- per month plus tuition fee equivalent to one
semester of the fee of the programme he/she enrolled in.

E) PAYMENT MODALITIES

The following modalities should be observed in payment of University direct costs and
other due pertaining to students:

1) All selected candidates to pursue their study on various Masters and PhD programmes offered
by the State University of Zanzibar are required to pay tuition and other fees by the beginning
of the semester. The remaining 50% shall be paid during subsequent registration in the second
semester/trimester. This procedure also applies for fees to be paid in the second year of studies.
Fees once paid are not refundable. Also, the University reserves the right to revise fees as
may be appropriate.

2) All payments should be deposited to the People’s Bank of Zanzibar Account name: The State
University of Zanzibar Account number: 0404075000SWIFTcode PBZ TZ and the original
bank slip to be presented to the Account office main campus Tunguu for issuance of official
receipt.

3) All students’ direct costs shall be paid directly to students by sponsors based on sponsorship.
