Paris

Paris is the capital city of France. It is sometimes called “The City of Light”. This is because many

famous artists and writers came from here. Paris was also actually the first city to use gas street

lights. Paris has a population of over 2 million people. It is also one of the richest cities in Europe.

About 32 million people go to Paris each year. It has many interesting places to visit.

One of the most famous museums in Paris is The Louvre. The museum started in 1793 and it is one

of the largest in the world. It has about 35,000 pieces of art. Almost 10 million people visit the

museum each year. 65 per cent of tourists who visit The Louvre are foreigners. 2,000 people work

at the Louvre. The museum needs this many employees because it is huge and has so many pieces

of art.

Another popular place to visit in Paris is the Eiffel Tower. More than 250 million people have visited

the tower since it was built in 1889. About 7 million tourists go to the tower every year. The

tower has three levels for visitors. You can climb up the stairs to each level. The first two levels

have restaurants. The third level is 276 meters from the ground. You can stand anywhere on the

third level and get a nice view of Paris below.

Nagasaki

Nagasaki city is the capital of Nagasaki Prefecture. It is located on the southern island of Kyushu in

Japan. The city became known all around the world for a tragic event during World War II. On

August 9, 1945, an atomic bomb was detonated above Nagasaki. About 75,000 people were killed

or wounded, and more than 30% of the city was destroyed. After World War II ended, the city was

slowly rebuilt. Some of the ruins were left near ground zero - the location of the bomb, and now

there is a park called Peace Park located there. People can visit this park and pay their respects to

the dead. There is also an Atomic Bomb Museum there.

There are lots of things to see and do in and around Nagasaki city. In the city center there are

several shopping centers. The biggest is called Coco Walk and there are many shops, restaurants

and a movie theater there. Nagasaki also is one of Japan's leading ports, and shipbuilding is the

main industry. Outside of the city is an amusement park called Huis Ten Bosch. This is a Dutch

themed amusement park. Visitors can see many actual sized copies of Dutch buildings. The name of

this theme park can be translated as "House in the bush”. There is also a beautiful night view in

Nagasaki at Mount Inasa. It is said to be in the top three night views in the world.
