INTRODUCTION TO MANSCI SEATWORK #1

1. Gon Freecss Company produces tables. The fixed monthly cost of production is Php 8,000 and the variable cost
per table is Php 65. The tables sell for Php 180 apiece. For a monthly volume of 300 tables, determine the:
1a)total cost Php 27,500
1b)total revenue Php 54,000
1c) profit Php 26,500
b) Determine the monthly break-even volume for the Gon Freecss Company. 69.565 units

2. Killua Zoldyck makes handcrafted dolls, which he sells at craft fairs. He is considering mass-producing the dolls to
sell in stores. He estimates that the fixed cost will be Php 25,000, whereas labor, material, packaging, and shipping
will be about Php 10 per doll. If the dolls are sold for Php 30 each, what sales volume is necessary for Killua to
break even? 1,250 units

3. Netero makes a fertilizer using two chemicals that provide nitrogen, phosphate and potassium. A pound of
ingredient 1 contributes 10 ounces of nitrogen and 6 ounces of phosphate, while a pound of ingredient 2
contributes 2 ounces of nitrogen, 6 ounces of phosphate, and 1 ounce of potassium. Ingredient 1 costs Php 3 per
pound, and ingredient 2 costs Php 5 per pound. The company wants to know how many pounds of each chemical
ingredient to put into a bag of fertilizer to meet the minimum requirements of 20 ounces of nitrogen, 36 ounces of
phosphate, and 2 ounces of potassium while minimizing cost. Formulate a linear programming model for this
problem.

Min 3x + 5y
s.t.
10x + 2y ≥ 20
6x + 6y ≥ 36
y≥2
x,y ≥ 0

4. Kurapika makes coffee cakes and Danish pastries in large pans. The main ingredients are flour and sugar. There
are 25 pounds of flour and 16 pounds of sugar available, and the demand for coffee cakes is at most 5. Five pounds
of flour and 2 pounds of sugar are required to make a pan of coffee cakes, and 5 pounds of flour and 4 pounds of
sugar are required to make a pan of Danish. A pan of coffee cakes has a profit of Php 1, and a pan of Danish has a
profit of Php 5. Formulate a linear programming model for this problem.

Max x + 5y
s.t.
x≤5
5x + 5y ≤ 25
2x + 4y ≤ 16
x,y ≥ 0

5. Leorio Paradinight makes necklaces and bracelets from gold and platinum. The store has 18 ounces of gold and
20 ounces of platinum. Each necklace requires 3 ounces of gold and 2 ounces of platinum, whereas each bracelet
requires 2 ounces of gold and 4 ounces of platinum. The demand for bracelets is no more than four. A necklace
earns Php 300 in profit and a bracelet, Php 400. Formulate a linear programming model for this problem.
Max 300x + 400y
s.t.
3x + 2y ≤ 18
2x + 4y ≤ 20
y≤4
x,y ≥ 0
