Subiectul I (35points)
Read the text below. Are the sentences 1-7 “Right” (A) or “Wrong”(B)? If there is not enough
information to answer “Right”(A) or “Wrong”(B), choose “Doesn’t say”(C). Mark A, B, C on your exam
sheet.
Dinner parties
There are only two types of dinner party: successes and failures. If everything goes well, you will have the
satisfaction of being considered a social success by all your acquaintances; if it doesn’t go your way, you will
encourage the silences that will explore the full meaning of the word “awkward”.
The most sensible course of action is never choose to be a host. But you want to be in the lime-light, so
here it is.
Although it might seem a contradiction, wherever possible, avoid having dinner parties in your own house. An
alternative location with great success is a restaurant. You don’t have to serve the guests and you don’t have to
cook. The most satisfying aspect is the fact that you split the cost of the evening with your guests.
If you have no choice and throw a dinner party at home make sure you don’t have too many guests, the
ideal is to have three or four couples and a single person who will be your rescuer. At the table, try to involve
your guests in serving the food by telling them that this is an old Tibetan custom. This will be a conversation
point. Try to avoid talking about politics as it is all the time an argument for contradictions. (The Observer)
