Writing I

Description

This course provides students with the basic knowledge of writing and trains them on how to
develop writing skills in various kinds of texts, such as descriptive text, report text, procedural text,
recount text, narrative text, news item text, spoof text, and explanation text. After attending this
course, the students are also expected to be able to get a better understanding on how to teach
those texts to students in elementary or secondary schools.

Objectives

In the end of the course, the students are able to:

1. Identify some basic elements of text.

2. Write various kinds of texts with good structure and linguistic features.
3. Get ideas on teaching writing to students.

Activities

The teaching and learning modes will be in form of reading, discussing, answering quiz, and
doing tasks/ writing project.

Evaluation

The students’ grades will be based on (1) participation in the discussion forum/quiz and (2)
their quality of writing tasks.
