LAB EXERCISE: CHAPTER 1 – FOUNDATION OF HUMAN COMPUTER INTERACTION

INSTRUCTION:

1. This lab assignment should be conducted in your group project.


2. Preparation time for this lab assignment is 2 hours.
3. Each group needs to submit the soft copy to Kalam.
4. File should be named as LAB_EXERCISE 1_ GroupNumber.

OVERVIEW:
The purpose of this task is to begin considering what makes a high-quality website. As a group, you need
to discuss below questions by performing the activities:

 Why do you feel that some websites are good?


 Why do you feel that some websites are not so good?
 Do others agree with your opinion?
 Does anyone disagree?
 Who is the target audience for a particular site?
 How might website quality be judged differently across different audiences?
 Are there some qualities of websites that all audiences would agree are good? What are these
qualities?

acclaim

3 The Best Designs for more examples of "good" websites


ACTIVITIES:

1.What is a high-quality website? 

As a group, discuss the questions presented in the Overview section.

2.What do the experts say? 

Visit the websites listed in the Resources section.

Resource 1 shows a list of elements in evaluating a website by McLachlan (2002) on


what constitutes high-quality websites. Which of these elements do you most agree
with? Do you disagree with any of these author’s opinions?

Resource 2: Do the winners of Webby Awards have features or characteristics that you
don't like? Discuss this as a group.

Resource 3: Identify the characteristic of designs in thebestdesigns.com, state your


individual chosen design and justify the reason.

3.Become a web critic. 

Browse the web and choose one Malaysian website that's good and one that's bad.

 Rate each site from 1 to 5 (5 being the highest).


 Comment on the site's design. Does the site look good? What is the eye drawn to
immediately?
 Comment on the site's content. What seems to be the main purpose of the site?
Is the purpose clear?
 Comment on the site's noteworthy features. How do the features enhance the
site's main purpose?

Create a table for your notes which looks something like this:
