Question 3
Taking the table height as 5𝑚, an initial speed of
15𝑚/𝑠ec. , and the angle of projection as 40°. find
the final landing distance ??

ans:- i,m obtain the final landing distance (range)

to be 27.48 𝑚 .
Part 1: Horizontal Launch (θ0 = 0◦)

experimental setup:-
v0 x (m) x (m) x (m) t (s) t (s) t (s)
(m/s (calc) (meas (% (calc (meas (%
) ) error ) ) error
) )
10 10.09 10.1 0.099 1.009 1.01 0.99
15 15.13 15.15 0.099 1.009 1.01 0.99
5
20 20.18 20.3 0.59 1.009 1.01 0.99

Question 10 (a)
ans:- As the initial velocity is increased, the time of
flight does not change.

(b)
ans:- Yes, this is the result I have expected, since
from the equation for 𝑦(𝑡), putting 𝑦(𝑡) = 0 yields
the same result for 𝑡 in all cases.

Question 11
ans:- When the air resistance box is ticked to
enable as such, and the experiment is repeated, I
obtained the following table :-

𝑥 𝑥 𝑡 𝑡
(experiment (experiment (experiment (experiment
al) without al) with air al) without al) with air
air resistance air resistance
resistance resistance

10.1 10.08 1.01 1.01

15.15 15.11 1.01 1.01

20.3 20.13 1.01 1.01

As it can be seen, there is a slight difference in
the horizontal values obtained with air
resistance but time of flight is same.

Part 2: Horizontal Launch (θ0 = 30◦)

experimental setup:-

v0 x x (m) x (m) t (s) t (s) t (s)

(m/s (m) (meas (% (calc (meas (%
) (calc ) error ) ) error
) ) )
10 14.20 14.21 0.070 1.64 1.63 0.06

15 26.37 26.38 0.037 2.03 2.02 0.49

20 42.43 42.51 0.188 2.45 2.43 0.81

Question 21 (a)
ans:- Yes, the time-of-flight changes as the initial
speed is increased.

(b)
ans:- This is in accordance with my expectations,
due to the factor of 𝑣𝑠in(𝜃) present in the kinematic
equations.
Question 22
ans:-
Upon adding air resistance using the checkbox and
repeating the experiment, I obtained the following
values.
𝑥 𝑥 𝑡 𝑡
(experiment (experiment (experiment (experiment
al) without al) with air al) without al) with air
air resistance air resistance
resistance resistance

14.21 14.18 1.64 1.64

26.38 26.28 2.03 2.03

42.51 42.23 2.45 2.45

Again, there is a slight difference in the
horizontal values obtained with air resistance
but time of flight is same.
What happens when the diameter of
the cannonball is increased, with air
resistance being present?
I take the following values and experimental
conditions.

1. Mass of the cannonball as 20kg

2. Diameters are 0.10m, 0.50m and 0.90m .
3. Air resistance turned on, altitude 0m and drag
coefficient 0.47 .
4. Initial speed 20𝑚/sec and initial height 0 𝑚
5. An angle of elevation of 30°
6. value of g = 9.80 m/sec^2

Sr. Diameter Horizontal Time of

No. of the range (𝑥) flight (𝑡)
cannonball
1. 0.10 35.2 2.04

2. 0.50 32.7 2.00

3. 0.90 28.22 1.91

As seen from the data, an increase in the
diameter of the cannonball corresponds to an
equivalent decrease in the time period and in-
turn the horizontal range.
