In a study with a similar design as the previous example, researchers looked at the effects of

nutrition on reading ability. In Group A, children ate at least three ounces of dark green

vegetables every day for one month. In Group B, children were fed their regular diet. At the end

of the month, the children took a reading comprehension test. Those who ate the green

vegetables every day for one month (Group A) did not vary in their test scores when compared to

Group B.

2. If you were the researcher, what other variables would you study to see if it may

contribute to developing asthma? Why?

Following are the other variables that I will like to study smoking, check-up with doctor,

overweight, living close to freeway, pollution, allergies, blood relative because these are

the things which contribute in the development of asthma. The key purpose due to which

I chose these variables are thought to increase the chances of in the contribution of

developing asthma. Because by adding green vegetables by nutrition in their diet as

compared to the children with normal diet there was no improvement in the reading

scores of the children. Asthma can be caused in the children if parents of any children are

smoking around them, having any relative or sibling with asthma, pollution can also

contribute in the development of asthma and these variables affect greatly.

3. Given the variables presented in the example and the variables that you thought of,

why would these variables be useful to the researcher?

The purpose of choosing all these variables is that it may show further improvement in

the scores as these variables have a great contribution in the development of asthma in

children and these variables will be useful for the researcher because by this the
