A PATIENT WHO CAN'T EASILY UNDERSTAND INFORMATION

M; hello ma'am, good morning
P; hello
M; so we had a laboratory test last time right, the urinalysis
P; yes
M; so based on the result maam, we found out that you have a urinary tract infection or what
we call UTI
P; so what does it mean
M; UTIs occur when the urinary tract becomes infected, usually by bacteria. In most cases,
bacteria from the gut enter the urinary tract through the urethra. Bacteria are the most
common cause of UTIs, although fungi rarely can also infect the urinary tract. E. coli bacteria,
which live in the bowel, cause most UTIs.
P; what? I cannot understand you. Can you explain it further or simpler maybe?
M; okay maam, so based on the result of your urinalysis you had a UTI. Most UTIs can be cured.
Bladder infection symptoms most often go away within 24 to 48 hours after treatment begins.
If you have a kidney infection, it may take 1 week or longer for symptoms to go away. During
the infection — and after — make sure to drink a lot of water, at least 12 8-ounce cups per day.
This will flush out your system and help prevent future infections. Do you want to elaborate
more?
P; no, thank you, I understand it already. So I need to drink plenty of water?
M; yes, you may also drink cranberry juice. Keep in mind that cranberries won’t cure an
infection. They can help your body flush bacteria out. But, you’d have to ingest a strong
concentration to eradicate them all.
P; okay, thank you for the information. Where can I contact in case that I forgot some
information?
M; here. Just let us know if feel something unnecessary.
P; okay thank you

A PATIENT WHO STARTS TO LOSE HOPE.

M; good morning ma'am
P; good morning
M; how are you feeling today?
P; I don’t know, I feel like I can no longer live
M; why did you say that?
P; because that’s what I feel right now
M; when I checked your medical record, I can say that you are getting better now
P; I’m starting to lose hope
M; don’t be like that, is there something that is bothering you? You can tell me if you want
P; nothing, I just feel like I’m useless because I am ill. I can’t do things like I used to do before. I
feel like I'm just wasting money here for my medication,
M; I feel bad about that, but don’t lose hope, everything happens for a reason, I hope you know
that. Just always have faith, because it allows you to cope. Just have patience, and everything
will be fine.
P; thank you for that
M; my pleasure, just tell me if you need something okay? If you need someone to talk to, just
tell me okay?
P; okay, thank you
M; never lose hope, because tomorrow could be the day you’ve been waiting for, no one knows
what tomorrow may bring. Just keep on fighting.
P; thank you, nurse
M; as always

A PATIENT WHO SEEMS TO BE VERY UNFRIENDLY AND DOES NOT WANT TO TALK TO YOU IN
TIME OF INFORMATION GATHERING PROCEDURE.
M; good day ma'am, I am ___, I will be your nurse for today
P; good morning
M; so what brings you here
P; I’m having a frequent headache these past few days and I am having a knee pain
M; how long does it last?
P; I think for an hour
M; what did you do when you’re having pain
P; nothing, I just take a rest until the pain is gone
M; may I know what is your age
P; __
M; how about your activities on daily living maam? Like what are you doing often every day?
things that you have always done on a daily basis.
P; just house chores
M; do you have heavy chores at home?
P; hmm, none
M; is there anyone in your family who has arthritis?
P; I don’t think so, why are you asking me those questions
M; so I would know maam if there is a history of arthritis in your family. Because there's some
evidence that rheumatoid arthritis can run in families, although the risk of inheriting it is
thought to be low as genes are only thought to play a small role in the condition. I just need you
to be cooperative maam so we can have accurate information for you to receive the right
assessment. Is that okay?
P: okay
Tuloy tuloy lang ang interview
M: thank you maam, I hope I gave you sort of information about what you are feeling right
now. If there’s something that you feel is unnecessary, just send me a message or you can
contact our clinic so we would know, okay?
P; okay thank you

P; I feel better now than yesterday
M; I'm glad to hear that. Did you take your medicines?
P; yes I did
M; that’s nice
P; did you know, before, I can’t take this type of medicines. The tablet ones, because I'm having
a hard time swallowing them
M; really? There are a type of people that can’t take that kind of medicine that’s why they
crushed it and then put it in water or their food for them to make it easy to take the meds
P; I also did that before
M; it’s nice to know. Do you need anything right now?
P; hmm, none so far
M; okay, just let me know if you need anything okay. I just checked you if you take your

P; but maam this is for her, to make her situation better
M; how long will it take
P; for a few hours maam, and then after she needs to take a rest then she will gain her energy
like before
M; why did it happen to us?!
P; no one knows maam, but everything happens for a reason. Just be calm and let’s just wait for
