PRECAUTIONS
SCAFFOLDINGS
1. Scaffolds should be erected, altered and dismantled by competent people.
2. All uprights should be provided with base plates (and, where necessary, timber sole
plates).
3. All uprights, ledgers, braces and struts should be in position.
4. Scaffold should secure to the building or structure in enough places to prevent collapse.
5. There should be a double guard rails and toe boards, or other suitable protection, at
every edge, to prevent falling.
6. Must have an additional brick guards provided to prevent materials falling from scaffolds.
7. There should be a working platforms fully boarded and are the boards arranged to avoid
tipping or tripping.
8. There should be effective barriers or warning notices in place to stop people using an
incomplete scaffold.
9. Scaffold should be strong enough to carry the weight of materials stored on it and evenly
distributed.
10. Scaffolds should be being properly maintained.
11. A competent person must inspect the scaffold regularly.
12. Proprietary tower scaffolds that has been erected and are they being used in
accordance with suppliers' instructions.
13. Have the wheels of tower scaffolds been locked when in use and are the platforms
empty when they are moved.
LADDERS
1. Ladders must be positioned so that users do not have to overstretch.
2. Ladders should rise a sufficient height above their landing place well.
3. Workers should be secured to prevent them slipping sideways or outwards.
4. Ladders should be rest against a solid surface and not on fragile or insecure materials.
5. Workers must be in good condition.
ROOF WORKS
1. People must keep away from the area below the roof work or have additional
precautions to stop debris falling onto them.
2. Must have taken precautions to stop people falling through fragile materials on the roof.
3. Should identified fragile materials such as cement sheets and roof lights.
4. Nets must be installed and hung safely.
5. During industrial roofing, have nets been provided to stop people falling from the leading
edge of the roof and from partially fixed sheets.
6. There must be edge protection to stop people or materials falling.
EXCAVATIONS
1. Excavation should be regularly inspected by a competent person.
2. Materials spoil and plant stored away from the edge of the excavation to reduce the
chance of a collapse.
3. Secured stop blocks must be provided to prevent tipping vehicles falling in.
4. Must provide barriers or other protection to stop people and vehicles falling in

unsupported trench.

MANUAL HANDLING

products which could cause problems if they have to be moved by hand,

Avoid the repetitive laying of heavy building blocks weighing more than 20 kg.
Use wheelbarrows, hoists, telehandlers, and other plant or equipment so that
manual lifting of heavy objects is kept to a minimum.
HAZARDOUZ SUBSTANCES
1. Must arranged health surveillance for people using certain hazardous substances.
2. Checked whether a licensed contractor is needed to deal with asbestos on site.
3. Identified and put into place precautions to prevent or control exposure to hazardous
substances.

NOISE
1. Arranged health surveillance for people exposed to high levels of noise.
2. Identify and assessed workers' exposure to noise.
3. People who were not involved in the work should be kept away from the source of the
noise.
4. Hearing protection must be provided and worn in noisy areas.

and what they need to do to avoid those risks.
HAND-ARM VIBRATION
1. Workers must have information and training so they know- what the risks are from hand-
arm vibration on site, and what they need to do to avoid those risks.
2. Arranged health surveillance for people exposed to high levels of hand-arm vibration,
especially when exposed for long periods.
3. Exposure to HAV should be reduced as much as possible by selecting suitable work
methods and plant.
4. Vibrating tools should be properly maintained.
5. Identify and assessed risks to workers from prolonged use of vibrating tools such as
concrete breakers, angle grinders or hammer drills and compactor.
WELFARE
1. Toilets should be readily available and should be kept clean and properly lit.
2. Wash basins should be provided hot and cold (or warm) running water, soap and towels.
And should be large enough to wash up to the elbow and are they kept clean.
3. There should be somewhere to change, dry and store clothing.
4. Drinking water and cups should be provided.
5. There should be a place where workers can sit, make hot drinks and prepare food and
that everyone who needs to use them can get to the welfare facilities easily and safely.
PROTECTING PUBLIC
1. Construction area must be fenced off from the public.
2. Road works must have barrier off and lit.
3. Public must be protected from falling material.
4. When work has stopped for the day,
Boundary must be secured and undamaged.
All ladders must be removed or their rungs boarded so that they cannot be used.
Excavations and openings must be securely covered or fenced off.
All plant must be immobilized to prevent unauthorized use.
Bricks and materials must be safely stacked.
Flammable or dangerous substances must be locked away in a secure storage
places.
