VECTOR Portable Workstation for Integrated

Environmental Radiation Monitoring

Description

VECTOR Portable Workstation provides integrated monitoring and measurements of

radioactivity of various objects in field and laboratory conditions. Integrated
radioecological monitoring includes: monitoring of food products, monitoring of
underlying surfaces. The VECTOR Portable Workstation measures gamma radiation.
The equipment and certified techniques and procedures allow the following
applications:

In the stationary laboratory:

• to identify the specific (volume) activity of radionuclides in liquid, granular and
solid samples;
• to identify the radionuclide composition and activity of gamma-emitting nuclides
in food, soil samples, building materials, timber and other environmental objects;
• to store the results on a computer
• to print the measurement results.

In the field:
• to use the set as a radiometer and multichannel spectrometer;
• to search for and locate the anomalies of gamma radiation in dynamic mode
(instant detection in several seconds);
• to identify radioactive sources automatically;
• to measure radionuclide activity in animals in vivo;

Radiometric and spectrometric channels make use of scintillation detectors on the

basis of CsI(Tl) crystals of size 30x70 mm (in the mobile unit) and 40x45 mm (in the
stationary unit). The mobile gamma detector unit has a hermetic cylindrical casing with
a convenient handle for long use in field conditions. The stationary gamma detector
unit has a 40-mm-thick lead shield with a 0.5 l Marinelli vessel, detector, power
source, photoelectronic multiplier and preamplifier. Under laboratory conditions, the
stationary gamma-detector unit can be used to measure the volume activity of samples.
In this case the station is powered from the stationary power unit, which includes a
battery charger device in addition to the power source.

All units are designed to work in field conditions and are hermetically sealed. In
stand-alone mode, the station is powered from sealed lead-acid battery with a voltage
of 12 volts, which can be charged directly from a car.

Competition

Our Portable Workstation uses the best detectors and counters currently available,
enhanced with our original software and processing algorithms. This combination
assures a very high sensitivity and reliability of measurements. Our devices offer a
broad spectrometric range, which enhances our ability to identify the types of
radionuclide contamination.
The VECTOR Portable Workstation meets all modern requirements for portable
gamma-ray spectrometry and associated software. We use electronic components from
leading manufacturers (Analog Devices, Intel, Altera, etc.), which are distinguished by
high reliability, ease of programming, high integration, and low power consumption.
The combination of these characteristics has allowed us to create an all-in-one system,
which significantly increases the performance/price ratio and guarantees the protection
of the customer's investments in measurement devices. Technical solutions
implemented in this system ensure operational life of at least 10 years with error-free
cumulated operating time of not less than 10,000 hours and make our Workstation
competitive.

On the customer's request the list of identifiable radionuclides can be completed or

changed.
