INSTRUCTION: Each group will be assigned a different community to discuss. For your
assigned community (CHURCH):

listening to the priest. He/she was unconcerned about the distraction and
noise he/she might cause to the other.
b) Eating and drinking snacks inside the church
Eating and drinking in church is both shows disrespectful and distracting
to others. It demonstrates a lack of moral courage for the reason of, you
chose to eat because you are hungry and you are unconcerned about the
people who require a peaceful environment to pray and reflect.
c) Taking something that doesn’t belong to you.
Example, you go to church and notice a brand-new umbrella, or a bag, or
a money that is accidentally left by someone. There is no one watching
and you are in need therefore you didn’t report it and instead you take it
and bring it home with you. There’s a high chance that you can return it
but you refuse to do so. It shows lack of moral courage because you know
that stealing is wrong, especially you perform it inside the church.
d) Corruption inside the church
For example, they collected too many offerings and it is for the church
instead of buying things for church or for emergencies they spend it for
their own good and buys unnecessary thing. It is lacking of moral courage
because instead of saving the money they used the money to buy
unnecessary things and they know that is stealing and wrong.
e) Not staying still
Making unnecessary movements while the mass is ongoing is kind of
disrespectful and there’s a possibility that the other listeners will be
distracted and they can’t focus.
It’s lack of moral courage because when you are at the church, you must
stay still and listen on the preaching of word God and must do things that
are appropriate.
f) Making unwanted doings inside the church
A good example for this one is gossiping inside the church. it is strictly
prohibited since the church must be a sanctuary place where we meditate
or give respect to our God. We attend masses to lend our ear to the priest

or pastor for us to learn more about the word of God, not to talk about
people that has done nothing wrong in our lives. According to Titus 3:2,
The Lord told “do not speak of evil to one”.
g) Not having a unity inside the church
We can relate the word church for gathering or assembly. When we are
attending masses, we sometimes tend to not listen to the priest. The priest
or pastor is the what we call the messengers of God. They know about the
Bible, they read Bible a lot of times before actually understanding it. So, if
we not listen to what they say about God, it is like we are not having unity
at the first place. And what is the sense of attending the mass if you are
not listening to the word of God.
3. Think about what characteristics of the community contribute to its lack of moral
courage
a) Being Impolite -for examples talking during the mass, the moral courage
is lacking because they are not paying attention while the pastor/father is
preaching. It shows there that they're impolite because. They did not
respect the father who shares the word of our God and they made
interruption to others.
b) Lack of discipline -eating and drinking snacks inside the church, the
moral courage is lacking because. They knew that eating and drinking
inside the church are not allowed but there are stubborn people do that.
c) Defensive – People in nature are defensive. Sometimes we get to so
much length to defend what religion we believe in and along its course, we
forget what being morally courageous is. we are only concerned with what
was taught to us by the preacher and we try to suppress the sound of the
other by being in defense to what we think is right by the religion.
d) Aggressive – Extremists go at great length to fight for the supremacy of
their religion over the other. They carve the way into it, and even kill
people for it but, it is not what being morally courageous means.
e) Selfishness - for example, reducing the 10% of giving tithes and offering
and thinking about yourself what to buy and what to do to the left money

Community: Church
for the ungodly doings, this is lack of moral courage because the point of
giving is more about generosity and stewardship where we need to bring
back the glory proactively not just when have some leftover.
f) Criticism - for example the pastor/preacher preached a message where
you were hit hard and made it negative thinking you are the one who's
been criticized and now you turn the situation so bad, by finding any
mistakes in the preacher. This is lack of moral courage because you’re
letting your mind control over you without balancing the essence of the
heart and proving them your behavior is as bad as what the message
says.
4. Brainstorm with your group about the characteristics of the morally courageous
persons in your community
a) Confident - a morally courageous person is confident and believes in
himself because he knows that the Almighty has a greater plan for him.
They know what they stand for and they are willing to fight for what they
believe is right in accordance to what is write in the eyes of the Lord.
b) Conviction - morally courageous person stay firm on what they stand for
as long as it is written in the book of life. They have their own perception
and decision about a certain matter in guidance with the gospel and does
not follow worldly things and actions that majority of the people do,
nowadays.
c) Integrity - morally courageous people can differentiate things between
what is right and wrong based on the word of the Lord. Everything that is
right in the eyes of the Lord is automatically considered correct.
d) Compassion - aside from having a firm belief, a morally courageous
person is also compassionate with the people because this is one of the
things that the Lord Almighty always teach.
e) Embrace the unknown - a morally courageous person is not afraid of
changes and the unknown. Instead, he stays faithful to his Lord and trust
His plans for him because trusting the Lord means that you are already
winning.
