When I was 16 years old, I was studying a technique career in plastic arts at a little
school of fine arts in Naucalpan. In the middle of the course, we needed to show a
sample of our work; I was so excited and selected some exercises I did but when I
was getting there at noon I found my teacher and he told me I needed a frame so
we could expose my pieces. Fortunately, my dad's workshop was very close and
two minutes later I was walking to get there and get the frames I needed.
Unfortunately, my dad hadn't arrived yet; there was only my cousin who offered to
build the frames for me so I went upstairs and I started working on some homework.
But it was getting late, and my cousin hadn't finished the frames, I was in a lot of
trouble! I didn't know what to do he had a lot of problems while building the frame;
before I left he told me that he hadn't built any kind of frame before and they were
falling apart already. I took the pieces as they were, I was very late and I had started
running by now. The biggest of my pieces was too much for me to bear by myself, I
was walking upward a street that has a very pronounced inclination and the painting
kept sliding from my hands, at the middle of the street the frame started falling apart
and it didn't keep the painting in a place as it should. But it didn't matter to me I was
decided to not give up and I kept going even if I was worried I wouldn't make it in
time. Finally, I arrived at the school, it was all full of people waiting, I saw the balcony
upstairs and my teacher told me to run, he started laughing at how late I was. I
walked under the red ribbon to get inside, I looked desperately for a nail, then another
teacher entered the room to help me. The inauguration had been delayed and I was
trembling but I went outside to cut the red ribbon.
I felt so flattered by my classmates, teachers, and people I knew, the principal of the
school offered me a contact at the Academia San Carlos so I could study there; even
the music students asked me for my pieces. There I met a lot of future friends and
the person who would become the love of my life. That is just one of many
experiences that had teched me to never give up even if you feel like you have
nothing left to give.
